A Word for the Prophetic Movement

In mid-April I began to feel purposeless, as if I were going nowhere (in spite of the fact that the opposite is true). I felt heavy and dead, and could take little joy in ministry. I have encountered many prophetic people who have been feeling the same way. But when I tell them why, their heavy feeling lifts.

Have you been feeling this way? Here's what I'm sensing. A change is coming in the prophetic movement. The movement began with a vibrant vision: we would rediscover the prophetic gift and office, and bring them back into the life of the Church. Joy came to many as prophetic words were fulfilled, but immature zeal has had its way. The need for accountability has been eclipsed by a quest for the excitement of prophecies (especially personal ones). We want so much to hear from God that we often fail to test prophetic words, as Scripture commands (1 Corinthians 14:29, 1 Thessalonians 5:20, 1 John 4:1).

Although the Bible regards false prophecies as a very serious matter, too many Christians treat them as a non-issue. A prophetic leader may give false prophecy after false prophecy, and it doesn't even occur to followers to test his words. When even our watchmen are not held accountable for their actions, who is left to warn teachers who would stray into heresy or pastors who would fall into sin? Ample objections come from the internet attack dogs who spew their vitriolic fire hoses not only on fires, but on the very fire of the Holy Spirit. But not enough prophetic voices are speaking out with the balance of firmness and compassion needed to protect the precious gifts with which God has entrusted us.

I sense that in order to protect His children from themselves, at this point the Holy Spirit is applying loving discipline by sending thousands of prophetic Christians into what St. John of the Cross dubbed, "the dark night of the soul." . If you are feeling the heaviness I have described, you may be one of them.

Or, if you have already been through the dark night, such feelings may signal a call to pray for others who are entering into it. God often causes us to feel what others feel, to prepare us to pray from a stance of empathy rather than judgment. If this describes your situation, you are probably beginning to feel lighter even as you read this, for you are realizing that the emotions you have been feeling are not your own.

In the sixteenth century, in his book, "The Dark Night of the Soul," St. John noted that when Christians discover spiritual gifts and mystical experiences they too often fall into spiritual pride, either knowingly or unknowingly, desiring to use these to gain notoriety. Some, aware of this temptation, become overly scrupulous. They desperately attempt to scrub every imperfection from their souls, unaware of a hidden motive to find peace in their own perfection rather than in the arms of a gracious and forgiving God.

St. John saw both of these reactions as expressions of "spiritual gluttony." Through his own suffering he learned that whether we are ravenous for notoriety or perfection, God cures us by putting us on a "spiritual diet." The following are signs that this is happening:

-- You may no longer find pleasure in the things of God or life in general.

-- You may no longer easily feel God's presence, have mystical experiences or hear prophetic words.

-- You may find it difficult to pray, feeling little or no enjoyment in it.

-- You may feel spiritually dead.

-- Because of all this, you may feel like God has abandoned you.

-- You may feel like you are backsliding.

--You may feel like everyone has forsaken you, especially your friends.

You may take all this to mean that God has removed His presence. Quite the opposite is true; He has increased it! It only feels like He has removed it, for two reasons. First, during the dark night you may feel like you are walking from a dimly lit room into full sunlight. The brightness of His holy presence can seem blinding, so that you can't see the light of His presence until the eyes of your spirit slowly adjust. Second, Malachi 3:3 says that God refines us like gold and silver. His increased presence can heat up the metal of your heart, causing dross to surface more quickly. You can become so aware of your sins and the deadness of your soul, that at first you do not perceive that His presence has increased.

You may also think the dark night is punishment or reaping for wrongdoing. It is not; it is God's way of leading you to despair of relying on your own strengths, abilities or gifts. In the process, you may discover sins you were previously unaware of, but these did not cause the dark night; they were merely revealed by it. So don't blame yourself for the dark night; be thankful that God is using this experience to build humble character that reflects more of His likeness.

How long must the dark night last? St. John suggested that in order for it to be effective, it should last at least a few years, but that is not absolute; there are many exceptions. It will last however long it takes to get you to the point of despair of self and then beyond it, to where you can abide in Christ, resting in the knowledge that without Him you can do nothing (John 15:5). Only God knows how long that will take.

Meanwhile, do not try ever harder to hear God or spend extra hours in fasting or Bible study in order to jump-start your stalled spiritual sensitivities (not that you should avoid these activities, but do avoid basing them on this motive). Rather, lean into God's embrace and cling to Him like a child in need. Jesus said, "Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all. And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them" (Mark 10:15-16, NAS).

To live in Jesus' embrace is, quite simply, God's goal for the prophetic movement. For what is the ultimate purpose of any prophecy, whether it be a word of encouragement, a warning, or even an announcement of impending discipline? Simply to draw us closer to God. What, then, is most destructive to the prophetic movement? Focusing on prophecies instead of God.

For those of you who have been feeling the heaviness in brothers and sisters who are entering the dark night, pray that this will not be a time of torment for them. Torment will come if they strive to recover the thrills His gifts once gave them. Pray for the grace to let that go and to embrace the choice fruit which God designed this season to produce -- sweet contentment in the arms of a loving God. Imagine the babies Jesus took into His arms in Mark 10. Were they prideful? How could they be?

Babies have no gifts or achievements in which to take pride. Did they seek gifts instead of God? Babies know nothing of such things. All that matters to them is the rapturous heart-to-heart and spirit-to-spirit flow of the Father's love. "Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." How we squirm in His arms! We would rather be down on the floor where we can play with our spiritual toys.

If you go through the dark night, spend a great deal of time in the quietness of God's embrace. Choose to soak in His presence, even if you cannot yet feel it. Eventually you will! The wait will cultivate patience and humility. Having endured a period without spiritual accomplishments, more than ever, you will know that you truly can do nothing in the power of your flesh. You will become more aware of your shortcomings and sins, yet be far less self-conscious and more self-accepting than before.

And when you finally begin to imbibe the deep satisfaction of the Father's love, it will make you "poor in spirit" (Matthew 5:3), for you will no longer feel the need to become rich in spiritual gifts. When gifts come, you will enjoy the God who gives them. When they are absent, you will enjoy God.

When the dark night has made you into a child who knows no reason for pride, it is then that God will increase the gifts, not only because you can be trusted with them, but because there will be less danger that you might use them to bring harm to yourself and others. And although you will be more able to feel God's presence and power, you will no longer see feelings as the measure of God's presence and power.

Lust for emotional highs will fade within the placid stillness of God's heavenly hug. And you will be able to invite others into that peace; you will be able to speak the truth -- even hard truth -- from no other motive than love.

Not everyone's "dark night" will look exactly like that outlined by St. John of the cross. Throughout Scripture we see saints who experienced elements of it, but each one's list of woes had its own configuration. What was common to all is that their time of suffering always led to the same blessed place.

David wrote, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Psalm 22:1 NAS). But he also wrote many of the most joyful Psalms. Job complained, "I cry out to You for help, but You do not answer me" (Job 30:20, NAS). But his life after his time of trial was twice as blessed as before (Job 42:12 NAS). In Lamentations 3:1-33, Jeremiah mentioned many of the elements of the dark night. He complained, "He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light (vs. 2, NIV). "Even when I cry out and call for help, He shuts out my prayer" (vs. 8, NAS). "My people...mock me in song all day long" (vs. 14, NIV). "I have been deprived of peace" (verse 17, NIV). "My splendor is gone and all that I had hoped from the Lord" (vs. 18, NIV).

Although Jeremiah's prophetic gift brought him nothing but rejection from his countrymen, he found his blessed place in God's embrace: "Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope; because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness" (vss. 21-23).

In Lamentations 3:24 (NIV), Jeremiah said, "The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait on Him." This outlook was what got him through his trial, and the increase of this outlook was the end-result. What is your portion? The extent of your gifts? The "high" they make you feel? The admiration they inspire in others? Being right when others are wrong? Your mind might protest that this is not so, but only God knows your heart. He knows how long it will take you to learn to really live the words, "The Lord is my portion."

You may pray that the length of the dark night be shortened, but do not be dismayed if it is not. I sense that for many, it will last for the next three to four years. For you, it may last for any length of time within that time period. During that season, prophecies may be scarcer than before. Spiritual highs may be harder to come by. But afterward, you will find yourself in a place to be guided by a new vision -- one centered on the simple premise that it's all about the Father's love.

Jesus said, "Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds" (John 12:24, NIV). In order to bear the fruit God intends, the current prophetic movement must die -- not die off, mind you, but die to its present form and state, to be resurrected into the balance that God intends for it.

"The Lord is my portion." When this season passes, for those who have allowed God to have His way, this may become the catch-phrase of the new vision for His prophetic movement.

Some backstory: 

Recently, I was reviewing old posts, and my attention was drawn to this word, and my spirit jumped on it. "This is for a lot of folks right now."   

Mark Sandford (the author) contacted me about it and pointed out that this was a word given four years ago about the four year period that just ended.

He adds, "For those who have been through that time in the dark night, it would bring hope to let them know that the four year period ended in mid-April. Please mention that. And mention that this doesn't mean that everyone's dark night lasted for exactly that four-year period, but it does mean that many people are now getting beyond it."

In any case, yes, he'll have a follow-up word for it this summer.

June 8-12 is a Strategic Time

Last December God spoke to me that 2011 will be strategic, and we will begin moving into more clarity about our destinies as God is shifting our assignments. New life will come in June and by September 2011 things we have longed for will begin to take shape.

We are heading into a strategic time as God is sending out invitations to go deeper and experience more of Him. This will require that we streamline our lives and be flexible. What we do this year will set the pace for the next several years.

The enemy has been attacking us in the area of "spiritual identity theft." Many have gotten off-track from their specific uniqueness' as individuals, ministries, churches, and businesses. We will need to go beyond the things that we are good at doing and focus on what we do the best. We are being released from our old assignments from God and we need to take steps towards our new assignments.

June 8-12 is a Strategic Time

This year Passover to Pentecost takes place from April 25-June 8. It is an amazing time of Heavenly interaction and activity. The Jewish Feast of Pentecost ends June 8 and the Christian celebration is June 12. God spoke to me about significant "positive" events that will take place during this time. Watch for new things to begin happening June 8-12.

What will happen during the dates June 8-12 is similar to Isaiah 6:8-10:

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" He said, "Go and tell this people: "‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.' Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed."

New Assignments Now Available

This is where Isaiah encountered God and received his new assignment. It was also a time in which some people thought they were hearing God but they were not hearing clearly or understanding Him. God is opening the spiritual ears and eyes of those who are looking to Him for their destiny.

God is asking many people to go on assignments that He would not normally have to ask them to accept. There has been an excessive amount of people who have fallen into complacency and therefore their callings and destinies are available to people who will say yes. New assignments along with the anointing and financial provision needed for those assignments are now available to people who will say yes to God.

ATM Cards from Heaven

I saw "spiritual ATM cards" being issued to people for "Angelic Teller Machines". God is assigning angels that will make finances and favor available from June 8 through September 30 (Pentecost – Rosh Hashanah). This is a specific time that people are going to reap what they have previously sown. In other words, we are in a time right now that we are receiving from God because of things that we have done and given to over the past nine years (2001-2011).

The amount of grace and blessing being received right now will not seem to make sense to some because it is coming as back-payment for previous losses.

Plan Now for the Future Assignments

Don't assume the amount of blessing you are receiving from June to September will continue at the same high velocity. So don't just think you can camp in the flow of blessing, you will still need to be wise and position yourself to get the new promotions coming after September. Begin planning now by watching for new opportunities.

New Grace Over Hollywood

I also heard a prophetic word that God has extended seven years of new grace and mercy over Hollywood and the entertainment industry as new media projects will arise. We will begin to see a rise of positive movies and music but simultaneously the enemy will try to combat this with an increase in demonic and witchcraft themes that will try to stop what God is doing.

Floodgates Opening

I keep having dreams that the floodgates of water have been opened and that the level of the supernatural is rising. I keep seeing reservoirs that are almost full and beginning to spill over. We are seeing news of areas in the U.S. where floodgates are being opened because of the large amount of rain and snow-melt. This is symbolic of the new levels of blessing, strategies and assignments that are being released from Heaven and the paradigm for new types of ministries, businesses and media projects that are beginning to unfold.

It is time to be willing to take risks and move forward with more confidence in the things that God is directing you to do. "Here I am Lord, send me!"

Lean Into the Wind

I spent one summer, many years ago, up in the Canadian Arctic. I never crossed the Arctic Circle, but I spent several weeks in an aluminum canoe quite close to that line. I learned some things during that season.

One thing I learned is that the wind in that territory really knows how to blow! During the few weeks of summer that far north, it’s not too awfully bad, but the rest of the year is known for strong and steady winds; we measured some at over 60 MPH. Those winds are relentless, they’re penetrating, and they’re merciless.

Out in the wilderness like that, one is tempted to try to find shelter from such a wind, but there is none. The tallest trees are measured in inches, not feet, and the highest mountain is a gentle slope to a 20’ summit. There is nowhere to hide from the wind.

There are only three ways to respond to the wind in those kinds of circumstances:

  1. You can lean into the wind. It won’t be easy going, but you can put your head down, squint your eyes, and face into the wind. If you hope to have any control over your progress, this is the only way to get around If you’re living in a tent (like I was), then the only option is aim the front of the tent, the tent door, into the wind, and open the door (zipper) just a bit. The wind will blow into the tent, expanding it to twice its normal cubic capacity, and – if you have staked it down properly – it will lock it into its place on the landscape.

  1. If you face the tent away from the wind or (heaven forbid) crosswise to the wind, prepare to get up in the middle of the night to gather what belongings you can find from across the landscape.

  1. You can turn your back on the wind. With your back to the wind, you find yourself pushed wherever the wind is blowing towards, out of control, of the camp, and usually towards the nearest body of icy water. You can’t see any better with your back to the wind, and its icy tendrils find your sensitive skin just as quickly. The effort to protect yourself is wasted, and eventually, you have to turn around, face into the wind, and work your way back to where you started from.

There have been a number of prophetic words about winds coming into our lives: winds of change, refining winds, winds of revival. These winds of the Spirit are relentless, they’re penetrating, and they’re merciless.

We will be tempted to try to find shelter from such winds, but there is none. There is nowhere to hide from these winds. One word says, “Because of a lack of understanding some of My people will try to find shelter from the Wind, but in so doing, they shall miss My work.” If we hide from the wind, we miss what God is doing.

There are only two ways to deal with the winds in these kinds of circumstances:

  1. We can lean into the wind. We can set our face like flint towards the wind that God is blowing at us, embrace the change, the refining, the revival as uncomfortable as it is. If we face into the wind, and open ourselves up to this thing that God is doing, we’ll find ourselves expanding in our capacity for what God is doing, inflated by the Spirit of God, and if we have anchored ourselves properly in Christ, we’ll be locked into our destiny by the very wind that we expected to destroy us.

  1. If we work at cross purposes to these winds, we’ll find ourselves waking up at some point to find our work strewn across the landscape, running to gather what shards remain.

  1. Or we can turn our back on the wind. If we face away from the wind, we will find ourselves pushed all over the place, out of control, and away from fellowship. We’ll be unable to see what is coming toward us or to see where we are being blown to, but it won’t be where we want to. Our efforts to dodge the work that God is doing will only serve to keep us in His processes longer in order to learn our lessons, and eventually, we’ll need to turn around, embrace the work He’s doing, and work our way back to where we started from.

What does this look like, leaning into the wind. It looks like embracing whatever God is doing in your life, in your community, and doing it without regard for personal cost. If He’s bringing winds of change, then we let go of the old ways – remembering the lessons we’ve learned there – and we embrace the new thing that God is doing (which is not the same as the latest trend in church growth techniques). If he’s bringing a season of refining, then it means that we embrace refining: we open ourselves for correction and conviction, knowing that some of what we hear will good and some will be false accusations. If He’s bringing revival, then we embrace revival, we look for any shred of the Spirit of God in the new and strange movement, and we ignore the odd noises, odd behaviors, odd theologies (excepting actual heresy, which we are very slow to judge) that the new movement exhibits.

Leaning into the wind means embracing what God is doing, whether it’s comfortable or not. It means ordering our lives so that we rely on the new and perhaps unusual thing that God is doing. It means not defending ourselves, our ministry, our beliefs, in the face of all that God is doing. It means that when we’re under the Spirit’s surgeon’s scalpel, that we look our surgeon in the face and ask Him to cut deep.

The alternative, turning our back to the wind, involves avoiding difficulty, avoiding inconvenience, avoiding discomfort. This lifestyle will end up blowing us all over the map, probably towards the nearest body of icewater.

The winds of God are on us now, winds of change, winds of refining, winds of revival. May we have the courage to lean into the wind.

Treasure Hunt Testimonies

In the Spirit of Revelation 19:10, "...the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

December 7, 2008, Bellis Fair Mall
Attendance: 19 people


Here is my testimony from today's Treasure Hunt. We had such a good time...everyone was really excited. Testimonies from other teams may follow!

SHAARON COLEMAN:

The Treasure Hunt at Bellis Fair Mall today (December 7) was really energizing! First we all met together in a "quiet" corner of the food court for prayer and some instruction from Michael Peters. We took a few minutes to practice on each other what we would say as we approached someone whom God had highlighted. And then we prayerfully wrote our Treasure Maps, listening to God for clues in 5 categories..Location, Person's Name, Appearance, Prayer Needs and The Unusual.

My team consisted of two middle aged adults (Shaaron and Glenn) a high-school girl (Briana) and two 5th Graders (Maddie and Megan).ALL Treasure Hunt Newbies! Both Briana and Glenn had "Kiosk" on their list, and Briana had in "Cell Phone Kiosk." I had Black/Red Clothing, so we stopped to talk to Robert, who works at a cell phone kiosk and was dressed in black & red with bright red tennis shoes. Three of us had "Family Issues" on our Prayer Needs list, and I'll bet you can guess what Robert wanted prayer for. He is a Christian and he had his Bible right in the Kiosk with him, but God apparently wanted to encourage him because near the end of the Treasure Hunt time we saw ANOTHER TEAM praying with him too...out of all the people at the mall during the Christmas season!

Since the "Body Shop" is a small store, just Briana and I went in to pray for Rachel, the girl who matched the description God had given us. Rachel was very receptive, in fact she herself pointed out "Ankle" and "Wrist" on my list, noting that she has tattoos in both locations. Now the really cool thing about this visit was.the only other customer in the store at this time was a guy (with his girlfriend) who had been sitting at a table right next to our food court gathering place, trying intently to listen in and see what the heck we were up to! God saw fit to give him a first-hand demonstration!

Briana had "Payless Shoes" on her list along with "Black Shiny High Heels." I had "Black Leather Jacket," "Red Hair," and the name "Morgan." Maddie pointed out a red-haired lady with black shiny heels and a black leather jacket, so we went to talk to her. Turns out she has a niece named Morgan and she is JEHOVA'S WITNESS! She didn't really want us to pray with her, but she was very nice and seemed kind of blown away. Her family (I assume), including a couple of teenage girls, witnessed the whole thing. Sweet!

Megan (age 10) had "Bookstore" on her list, and Maddie (also 10) had the name "Sarah." I had "Little Girl with Blonde Hair" and something "Pink." Briana had "Baby." So who was right inside Waldenbooks but Mary and her curly blonde-haired little girl Isabella, who was carrying a pink ballon. And what did they want prayer for? Mary's sister Sarah who lives in California and is having a Baby soon!

There were so many more cool things, including an additional person that God had highlighted to us also being chosen by another team.but I'll end with this one.As we were re-gathering in the food court at the appointed end time, Maddie pointed out to Michael Peters that we had not yet found a person on Megan's list.someone in a "Blue Shirt" with a "Boot-type Cast" on their foot. Michael immediately said, "Well there she is right there!" So Michael asked Maddie and Megan to pray for the teenage girl wearing a blue shirt and a boot-cast on her foot!

This is super-easy and very effective, folks. Everyone should try it!

12/6/08 - Olympia, WA

Denise and I went on our first “treasure hunt” today. On the way to Costco Denise said, “let’s pray that God will show us people He wants us to minister to.” I said, "OK". As we drove, God showed me images of 4 people we would meet. I saw a girl about 2 years old with black curly hair, a tall man about 55 years old with a red and gray beard, an elderly woman with white hair leaning all of her weight on a shopping cart and a younger man with black and silver hair combed straight up. We found 3 of my people at Costco. I encouraged the elderly woman by telling her God loves her. I felt God wanted me to say the same thing to the man with the red and gray beard so I spoke some encouraging words to him about how God loved him and wanted to bless him. His wife asked if we could lay hands on him to be healed of his back injury, so we prayed for him to be healed.


While Denise prayed she received a word about a young man wearing orange, who was a musician, and that God wanted to encourage him to continue in his pursuit of music. It took a while for us to find him but we had to stop at Safeway on the way home and as we entered the store we immediately saw him. We waited for him to leave, and Denise approached him in the parking lot. She asked him if he was a musician and he said, "yeah, I'm a drummer." She encouraged him to continue with his music and that God would bless his efforts. He received the message very well. His mother seemed amazed and very glad that a complete stranger would walk up to him and do something like this. We found the man with the black and gray hair a few moments later in the Safeway and I encouraged him by telling him God wanted to bless his life. He told us God was already blessing him. He had just come from an AA meeting and had been clean and sober for a long time and that God was doing great things for him. We saw the little girl as we were driving away form the store. Her mother was carrying her on her hip. We prayed for God’s protection over her as we drove away. We had an awesome time doing a routine thing that normally wouldn’t be very exciting. We want to do this on a regular basis from now on. We are going to write down the descriptions and details we receive in the future and give them to the people we find. We may draw pictures of the people and let them keep it to remind them they are God’s treasure.

'Men of Portland': The Lord Commands You To Go Now

INTRODUCTION

While ministering in the Portland / Vancouver area from April 15th -21st 1998, I sensed the Holy Spirit showing me how He wished to move in that area and the northwest region. The biblical framework for this move is found in Judges, Chapter 6 and 7, the story of Gideon. God's move through Gideon and his army is centered around religious reform and military action based on a coalition of Israelite tribes. In the Church today, we have recently, through the Renewal, experienced religious reform. I believe that the Lord is now revealing to us a military strategy based on a coalition of Christian Churches.

THE LORD NAMES YOU

Prior to calling Gideon forth for military action, the Lord named him anew, identifying his forthcoming role in God's army.

Judges 6:12 "The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour." (KJV)

I believe that God has unveiled his army of warriors to many Christians in this region, and that he has also named you in terms of your rank and function in that army.

THE LORD COMMANDS YOU TO GO NOW

Though Gideon had lived a life of oppression, robbery and confinement under the ravages of the Midianites, and though, in his own understanding, his family was among the poor in Manasseh and he, the least in his father's house, the Lord said in Judges 6:14.

"Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?"

I believe that the Lord is saying to us to "go now" in the strength that we have.

GOD WISHES TO FULFILL A RESOUNDING AND WIDESPREAD SCATTERING AND ROUTING OF THE ENEMY IN OUR TERRITORIES

The Lord made known the extent of His intended uprooting and annihilation of the enemy to Gideon.

Judges 6:16 "Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man."

I believe that, in a united and progressive thrust forward with the Holy Ghost, Christians in the northwestern territories will uproot the enemy from the land.

UPROOT ANY VESTIGES OF WICKEDNESS THAT WERE INHERITED THROUGH YOUR GENERATIONAL LINE

Judges 6:25 "… throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it."

I believe that some, either have already, or will experience the Lord requiring a complete uprooting of all vestiges of rebellion, idol worship, witchcraft, false religion etc. in their family line.

Judges 6:26 "And build an altar unto the Lord thy God upon the top of this rock …and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down."

I believe that the Lord requires a fresh consecration of oneself unto God. Some of the old 'furniture' of religion may have to be removed to make way for a new out-pouring of the Holy Spirit into our Churches. The former must make room for the latter, which will bring about a completely different, more liberated and culturally rich landscape for the worship of the Lord. Many people may have already experienced a certain separation from former religious organizations as a preparatory step towards what lies ahead.

PROPHETICALLY CALL YOUR BROTHERS IN ARMS FROM THE SURROUNDING TERRITORIES

Judges 6: 34,35 "But the spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him. And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also gathered after him; and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them."

I believe that men (and women) are to call together the Christian communities of the northwest to unite in the fulfillment of God's battle strategy. The 'trumpet' symbolizes the prophetic voice and also worship. I believe the Lord desires a convening of Christian communities for a large 3-day festival of worship in the Portland, Oregon area primarily. I believe that the timing of this event should be in early October 1998, coinciding with the Feast of tabernacles. This may be followed by another similar event in Olympia, Washington and later at another location. During that 3-day period of celebratory worship, with the dance and the 'Shout', the Lord will liberate His mighty men from the last vestiges of bondage and oppression under the ruling principalities of this territory and the religious (and other) organizations to which they have been tied. It will be like the crossing of a national boundary - out into new, liberated courses, which were destined for their lives. These men (and women) will be released into a company of mighty warriors, of forerunners, of like-minded men.

MANY PEOPLE OF GOD WILL PREFER TO REMAIN IN THE CAMP

There will be many among the Christian community who do not wish to go up into battle; they are occupied with the affairs of home; some are fearful at heart; they prefer to remain in the camp. They are freely permitted by God to refrain from the new thrust forward by the spirit into the enemy's territory.

Judges 7:3 "Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying 'Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from Mount Gilead'. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand."

SEPARATION OF THE MIGHTY WARRIORS

There will be a further sifting of the troops, much like that done by military organizations, where individuals are selected on the basis of personal merit, training, experience, gifting and bravery of heart, to go up into battle.

Judges 7:4 "And the Lord said unto Gideon, 'The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there; and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee. This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go."

I believe that there are many Christian men and women in the northwest in whom God has staked his visions for the region. In the coming months, these visions will be stirred up within them. There will be an intense desire to run faster, to go up, and to take the land. To these people, I believe the Lord says 'Do not expend your energy in an attempt to bring all members of your communities with you. Do not pour your visions into the hearts of those who will choose to remain in the camp. Rather contain your strength; set your face forward to going up to battle; the Lord will soon liberate you into a company of mighty men who are like-minded and who will fight with you.

A NECESSARY DISTANCING FROM THE CAMP

There will evolve a certain physical and spiritual distancing between those who go up to battle for new territory and those who remain in camp. Let those who remain in camp give all they can to furnish the needs and to equip those going forth to take the land.

Judges 7:8 "So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men, and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley."

Those who go forth do so in a company of warriors. They are not cut off from the community of God's people in camp. They are simply separated for a time by virtue of the requirements of their visions.

DIVIDING THE WARRIORS INTO SEPARATE COMPANIES

Judges 7: 16-18 "And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet into every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers. And he said unto them 'Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do. When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of the camp, and say, 'The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.'"

I believe that the mighty warriors will group, and fulfill their part in separate locations, though they all form part of one battle strategy. I see three separate thrusts, going north, east and south in these territories.

THE STRATEGY AND BATTLE OF THE LORD

The main tenets of the strategy are for the Church to (1) go up to battle, take your positions and stand. The Lord will go before you and destroy your enemies. This is linked to the description of the Lord's strategy given to Jehoshaphat when he defeated the Moabites and Ammonites (2 Chronicles 20).

2 Chronicles 20:21 "And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth forever. And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten."

(2) The second tenet of the strategy is "the trumpet and the shout" i.e. prophecy, praise and worship. As this is fulfilled at a number of locations, I believe that the Lord will shake the enemy strongholds, causing spiritual forces to flee in many different directions.

Judges 7:20-21 "And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried 'The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon'. And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled."

I also saw prophetically, that as the worship and the shout went up, the hard dry earth of the territory suddenly cracked like a mild surface earthquake. I believe that this represents the fallow ground in the hearts of the population being ploughed up by the Lord. There will be a widespread and all encompassing shaking by the Lord of the unbelievers in the region. I believe that as companies of evangelists later go out to sow the seeds of the gospel amongst the general population, they will find the soil of the peoples' hearts already ploughed and ready to receive the Word of the Lord.

(3) The third aspect of this move is the re-formation of the Church as a 'city without walls' as described in Zechariah 2.

Zechariah 2:4-5 "… Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the Multitude of men and cattle therein: For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her."

I believe that the Lord desires to use many people from different denominations, who will work together to fulfill these words. In doing so, He wishes to remove some of the walls between Churches, to intermingle their strengths and anointing, and to show forth his bride in a glorious unity of purpose.

THE WHEAT HARVEST FROM THE CHURCH

Lastly, I got a sense from the Lord that this year he would be taking a wheat harvest from the Church. This referred to the men and women that he had carefully taught and trained over the past number of years and whom he considered to have reached maturity. These would be a "first fruits" unto the Lord. They would be separated for the coming work of the Lord, some of which has been outlined earlier. Pastors, themselves, are included in this wheat harvest. Some would be separated unto greater works beyond the boundaries of the local body. For pastors who see some of their 'finest' people leaving: they are to know that this harvest is to their glory for it is they who have nurtured this crop to maturity; furthermore, the separation is unto the planting of many new works for the Lord. In this way, the parent Church will multiply as well as continue in the addition of members. Lastly, the new 'families' formed after the separation will be places wherein the 'parent' pastor should always be received and honoured for his labours.
