The Spirit of Samuel

A prophetic word received 7-10-03

Scripture reference:  1 Sam. Ch 1-4

The days of Eli are passing  and the light of heaven has already begun to shine on the days of a Samuel & David generation.

Some prophets will weep, for the old order is passing away to make room for a new day birthed in the heart of God.  The Spirit of Samuel has been birthed in the Hannah – like travail of intercession.  This travail has been misunderstood by some but the result is the birthing of a new generation – so young, yet born with ears to hear the voice of God.

The Samuel anointing brings correction & balance to the church.  Eli’s sons have ruled long enough.  What was hidden in darkness will be brought to light and there will be no hiding from the spirit of God.

The order of Eli will fall backward as the righteousness of God leaps forward.

The neck of Eli will be broken – The Lord will sever the power of the rule of the intellect in favor of the rule of the heart within His Church.

The Samuels are ready.  They were nurtured in the Holy Place of God’s presence.  They have walked side by side with Eli, but they are not of the spirit of Eli.  The Spirit of Samuel will arise within the hearts of many and they will govern in the power and authority of the Lord.  The Samuel anointing will mature to become a father’s anointing and it will bring healing to the land.

When the Lord first spoke this word to my heart, I felt as if we were in the beginning stages of the release of a Samuel generation.  In the first chapters of First Samuel, Hannah, whose name means favored (from the Hebrew root: to implore), is a picture of the today’s intercessors.  Like Hannah, our intercessors have been misunderstood and even rebuked in their prayers  (“Eli thought she was drunk 1:14).  But through perseverance and in spite of mocking (1:7) the intercessors have birthed a new generation with a pure heart that follows after God.  And just like Hannah brought a robe for Samuel year after year (2:19), today’s intercessors have been covering a generation with prayers and watching them grow.

Samuel grew up in the House of the Lord under the supervision of Eli the High Priest.  Although, Samuel grew under Eli, he is not of the spirit of Eli.  Eli had two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, whom the Bible calls “sons of Belial” (2:12).  They were evil beyond description and filled with greed and lust.  They corrupted God’s holy priesthood and treated the holy things of God with contempt.  Eli was too weak of backbone to stop his son’s sinful ways and God sent a prophet to ask him, “Why do you honor your sons more than me?” (2:29)

Eli and his sons are a picture of the modern American church.  Just as Eli was fat and weak and dim of vision (3:2)  In the same way we have fattened ourselves with the blessings of God, using what was meant to bless others for ourselves.  Meanwhile, the widow, the orphan and the poor are forgotten.  Enriched by our greed we have lost humility and have become proud – to proud to listen to God or to follow Him.  We favor our own human wisdom and intellect and justify our sins.  The name Hopni comes from the Hebrew word for “fists,” and the name Phinehas comes from the root words “hiss of a serpent.”  This describes well the quarrelling, bickering, gossiping, whispering, and malice seen within the church walls.  And to our shame, the secret sins of the church are now broadcast on the evening news and on the covers of the newspapers.  How many church congregations have been split and crippled by scandal.

But God says, “The sons of Eli have ruled long enough!!!”

Through the mouth of two prophets, including Samuel, God spoke judgment upon the house of Eli.  And on the same day, the Ark of God was lost, the sons of Eli were slain, and Eli himself when he heard the news fell backward,  (4:18) broke his neck, and died.  The way Eli died, paints a picture for us of what the heart of God is in our day.  God wants nothing of the spirit of Eli and his sons to be passed to the next generation.  The old order has fallen backward (it will not be carried forward).  The neck is the division between the head and the heart.  God is severing the “head” that has ruled His church for too long in favor of the ‘heart”.  The head symbolizes the intellect of man, our human wisdom, man’s plans, and man’s ways and traditions.   The heart symbolizes relationship with God, intimacy with Abba Father, and one who’s own heart responds to the heart of God. 

The Lord said, “I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind.” (2:35)

God chose Samuel.  The Bible says, “Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord.” (2:21)  He grew up beside Eli, but he had a different heart and spirit.  In our day God is raising up a generation who’s heart yearns for the true presence of God; a generation with ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.  God has called a generation of young men and women who hate sin and hypocrisy and who want to follow God with passion and obedience. 

God is not passing the baton of the old order to this Samuel generation.  What God is doing today in this generation is birthed from His heart and will be a marked contrast to “business as usual” Christianity.  Many in the church will mourn the passing of Eli, and will even try to resurrect the old ways, for that is all they have ever known.  For a season Eli and Samuel will dwell in the same house side by side.  But soon Samuel will emerge to his calling. When this Samuel anointing has matured, it will bring the Father’s heart and healing to the church and to the land.  The widow, the orphan, and the poor will no longer be forgotten.

Today, I feel we are farther along in the release of the Samuel generation than we were 5 years ago when this prophetic word was first given.  Today, the picture I get in my heart is a picture of Samuel standing in a doorway with one foot on the threshold and hands on both lintels of the door.  Samuel is looking to the horizon and a new day is dawning.  Soon he will step out of the house of Eli and walk forward to his destiny as a prophetic generation.  God will be the guide of this generation, but they will need godly mentors.  They are throwing off the robe of Hannah they have now outgrown, to replace it with a mantle of anointing from God.  This mantle still fits too big on their shoulders, the Samuels will need mentors, godly men & women who know the heart of God.  These mentors will need to lay aside the traditions and methods of the old order.  We must not mold this new generation after ourselves!  Instead, we are to come beside them to encourage and support.  We will ask, “What are you hearing from God?”  And our response to the answer will always be the same:  Say to the Lord, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”

On the day the Samuels go forth, the praying Hannah’s will say as Hannah of old:  “My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high.  My mouth boasts over my enemies for I delight in your deliverance…those who were hungry, hunger no more…He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.”  (2:1-10)

Keep praying for the Samuels.  And if one happens to cross your path, come beside him or her to mentor and encourage as Barnabas mentored Paul.  Send the Samuels out with prayer and financial support and whey they return, bind up their wounds, love them, and send them out again.

The Potential Power of the Pacific Northwest

Recently, God dropped the Pacific Northwest (including Alaska) into my spirit. I began contemplating the numerous volcanoes that dot the mountain ranges there. Then it clicked. It was as if the Holy Spirit was showing me just a small glimpse into the dynamics of the Church in that region.

It would be easy to parallel the power held within a volcano as that meant for destruction, but I believe this is more in correlation with the potential of the power of God in individual churches, communities, and cities.

So when I mention volcanoes, I believe you could replace that word with any appropriate city, church, or even individual.

The Ring of Fire

The Pacific Northwest is part of a geological circle known as the Ring of Fire, where many active volcanoes are located. I believe this name to be prophetic nature for the region. The fire of the Holy Spirit is just awaiting to be loosed, much like Jeremiah prophesied that the Word of the Lord was like fire shut up in his bones (Jeremiah 20:9).

At one time, there was no doubt that these mountains were alive, releasing molten rock and changing the landscape around them. But now, years after their initial “eruptions,” these mountains lie dormant, or asleep, iced over and covered in snow; their mouths are now shut and closed off.

Rumbles of Revival

Even though these volcanoes may look asleep, they are very much alive on the inside. Once the pressure reaches a certain level, the mountain will then explode to action, shaking and quaking everything around it.

There have been major eruptions, or revivals if you will, in these mountains. Consider Mt. St. Helens and most recently Mt. Redoubt (whose name suggests another prophetic message all in itself). Let us not “doubt again” the power of the Holy Spirit and His capabilities in this region.

What Does This Mean?

Churches and individuals in the Pacific Northwest have great potential to move in the power of God in these days. It is time now to pray for visitation, just as God did with Mt. Sinai, whose mountain probably looked very much like a volcano. The clouds of glory and the flames of the Holy Spirit can manifest once again with signs and wonders following those who believe. There is such a hunger for the things of God, and this region is ripe for the harvest!

As everything that can be shaken will be shaken, it is a great opportunity for the Church in the Northwest to manifest in power and display the glory of the Lord in a new and powerful way.

When the Student is Ready, the Teacher Shows Up

When the anointing is on you, sacrifice is no big deal. When you understand the anointing, you can bring closure to a chapter in your life that's remained open for too long. When you understand the anointing and you operate in the anointing, it's not a problem to distribute your resources. And when you understand the worth of the anointing, it's not hard to follow after it and pursue it with all your heart.

God Almighty is preparing a generation for a rich legacy that is about to be passed – we are at the end of a five hundred year period. What is about to come on the Body of Christ will rival what took place in the Great Reformation. God has been restoring for the last two thousand years, well the last thousand years, to the Church what has been lost. You are the sons of the prophets. You are the seed of Abraham. Every blessing in the covenant to possess Heaven and Earth, to move in dominion, to move in increase, to move in the fullness of the Spirit – is yours.

"Holy Spirit of God, Holy Spirit of God, come right now – overshadow." Here it comes. Just let it blanket you. Just let it soak you. Position yourself. Align yourself for that greater anointing. The fullness of the Spirit, the fullness of Him who fills all in all; the anointing that breaks the yoke, not just in the meeting place but it will break the yoke in your home. It will break the yoke on your job. It will remove the curse from your destiny and from your career, from your vocation. It will remove the yoke from relationships that are draining you. It will bring deliverance.

You are an heir. You are an heir of God. You are a joint heir with Christ. That double portion, that promise of the Father, the greatness of the call, the power of resurrection – we are about to embark on a season in which there will be such great difference between the light and the dark that you will be able to know, "These are the people that walk with God."

There is a great end-time visitation coming; it is almost upon us. I can hear the sound of an abundance of rain. God Almighty is grooming a company to move in power and practicality to reach the culture and to bring increase and expansion – the provision of God, more sufficient than any natural provision could ever be; the blessing of the Lord that makes rich and adds no sorrow.

"I Am Looking for Those Who are Young in Spirit"

"For these are days," saith God, "when I am stirring up the spirit of another generation and it matters not their age; it matters the age of their spirit. For there are many who are old but young in their spirit and there are many who are young but they have become old in their spirit. I am looking for those who are young in spirit, for there is a new generation that is about to cross a line and cross a threshold and operate in a dimension.

"They will go with Me on a journey to discover earmarks that are in the Spirit – places of lodging, places of power, places of deliverance, places of blessing. For in the heavenly realms, I have stored up treasures that when they go in, they will bind the strongman and reclaim the goods that he took from My people over these past generations.

"There is coming a great shift. It is going to come globally on the Body of Christ and there is going to arise a company of people that will be delivered from their past and rescued for their future and they will operate in a double portion anointing that will stagger the minds of the unregenerate and they will walk in the wisdom and in the understanding and the knowledge of the Most High God.

"And every place they go, they will transform the environment. They will bring blessing and they will leave blessing behind them. They will cause dark places to become light. They will cause brown places and barren places to become well-watered like a garden. They will cause broken places to be healed. They will cause sick places to be made well.

"For they are the people of Jehovah and their vindication is from God. For there is coming a great vindication because of the great warfare. From the great warfare, there is coming great vindication and great blessing.

"Rejoice, for your hour is coming and is now upon you when you will begin to see the goodness of God in the land of the living," saith the Lord.

Gary's Note: Bob Jones is certainly an elderly statesman in the prophetic seer realm in the Body of Christ. I've gleaned the following from a message he gave recently. Bob is a seer, not a teacher. Sometimes he just makes a statement and then is on his next point, and you're not sure if he's left his former point or not. Sometimes he spends a lot of time on one point and you're not exactly positive when he's on another point. So the following is how I heard it. Gary

Word from Bob Jones

The year 2009 was the year of the OX. We plowed repeatedly. It seemed that all we did was plow and there was no or little reaping. We became exhausted with all the plowing. We even became discouraged and sometimes wondered if we had missed God. But God was plowing out things in us and the Body at large so He could use them. There had to been a cultivated soil so that seed that was planted would grow.

That year is over. The year 2010 is the year of the EAGLE. This year vision is carried and it begins to grow. This is the time to get the Word of the Lord out of our mouths as much as possible so it can bear fruit. The eagle has a protection on it that allows it to fly into the sun. Our country (the eagle is our symbol) has a protection on her if we fly into the Son. This year healing will arrive. You will begin to see some incredible miracles, and you will begin to be recipients and do incredible miracles.

The year 2011 is the year of the LION. That speaks of authority. Christians will walk in the authority of God like they have not been walking. We have the same authority that Jesus had on earth. We can do the same acts that He did. In John 14:12 the Lord says we will do even greater acts that He did.

The year 2012 is the year of MAN. The new man in God will begin to be seen. This speaks of unity in the Body, the Jews and Gentiles coming together, the world seeing a different type of Christian. This new Christian walks in love and power!

Though there will be revival pockets before 2013, it will become full scale in 2013. We're talking world wide revival. ( Remember Tim McClellan's prophecy over Jason Hubbard and Jon Hammil?)

Judgments are coming to the Body. Some of them are not for us, but we must trust in God or they will overcome us. The devastation of many others judgments can be reduced by us

1. Severe anxiety--We're not entitled to have this judgment; it belongs to the world. We are supposed to have the Answer to show to others who are very anxious.

2. Fear--This comes from having a big devil and a small God. People will die from anxiety and fear (e.g. heart attacks, suicide, etc.) Our faith needs to be anchored on Jesus, not what the news commentators tell us. In fact, many newscasters are witches putting curses on their viewers and listeners.

3. Depression and self pity--You cannot have your way, but God will have His way. Get over yourself and grow up. Stop living in poverty of spirit.

4. Financial collapse

5. Nicolaitan spirit--This spirit is condemned by the Lord in Rev. 2:6 (church at Ephesus) and in Rev. 2:15 (church at Pergamum). This spirit has victory over or rules over the people. It's the pastor (and sometimes other leaders in the church) being on a different, higher level than the people. The Lord says in Revelation that He hates this spirit, to repent of it, and that He will come against it with the sword of His mouth. The reign of the pastor over the entire church is coming to an end. There will be a community of believers with their various giftings operating. Everyone will be important.

Bob added that it was not necessarily so that the woman would come along side the man and together they would be successful. Wherever he has gone to speak in the United States, it has been the women who have shown hunger for God--about 85% to 15%. It could very well be that the men will come along side the women and be successful.

6. Plagues coming to crops. Bob saw fleas hit the fruit in Florida and wipe out the crop. There will be new viruses and new infections. The medical community will have no answers. These plagues will promote fear everywhere, but we do not have to buy into it. Don't pray to God for help. He's already given us the authority over plagues, but we must rise up and use our authority. Bob gave an example of a virus that hit North and South Carolina a few years back. It killed many people and there was no medicine to stop it. The church pleaded with God to help them.

Then the Lord told Bob in an angry voice that He wasn't going to pull the virus back; He had already given the church authority to do that. So Bob and Rick Joyner came against the virus in the name of Jesus and cast out the curse over the two states. After that, not one person died of the virus.

Watch Iceland. The Lord told Bob years ago that Iceland would be the barometer of what was happening and about to happen both in the U.S. and in the world. The volcano action there is a sign that God is shutting down the world economy. Three years ago Iceland went bankrupt. That's in our future, too. However, how long these things last is determined by us, the Christians.

Let God's shaking only shake out that which is not of Him in you. That way the Christ in you can grow up.

The Spirit of the Lord says there has been a boundary line. The enemy has said “I will not allow you to come any further. You will not take possession.” But Jesus spoke these words “Occupy until I come.” There is a territory that has not been taken by any generation. There is a force that has not been brought down by any generation that will be dealt with, says the Lord with this generation and in this time. There is a line that he has drawn, your enemy, and said “you will go no further.” The church – did I not tell you that I am building my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Tonight I will break that boundary line. I will break that boundary line, says the Lord and give you access!

Come to us tonight, Spirit of God. Give us the fire that it will take. Who shall survive the everlasting fires? Who shall survive the burnings and the fires? For the Spirit of God said those who shake their head and say no to a bribe, those who block their ears to the stories of bloodshed, those who close their eyes to evil, those who walk before the Lord with fear. These are emerging says the Lord, therefore, you will survive the fires, for there shall be fires that shall burn, and God said it shall be a sign. For surely there is a baptism coming to my people, a baptism of fire. Some will survive, some will not, but those who survive will revive and set fires and set ablaze and I will give you access says the Lord to territories that the world is waiting to access, but you will get it before the world gets it, says the Lord.

God says, as you pray tonight, as you gather together making one sound with one voice I will open up the heavens. And when the enemy’s tried to close the doors I’m going to open them again. God says, you’re gonna pray, you’re gonna pray, you’re gonna pray with the prophet tonight. As you pray says the Lord I have opened up the heaven to you.

God said when they light the tree, when the trees are lit and they say there’s Christmas, and they say this is a time of celebrating the Son of God, they are trying to take away the name of the Son of the living God. They are trying to take away the power of the name of Jesus. But God said just you watch me now as I make the change tonight.

The Holy Spirit speaks these words: Seattle, I have not withheld from you. You have survived in a big way. I’ve told you how the heavenlies are going to be dictated by those that are the saints of the Most High God.

Four horns that suddenly got to be swiftly entangled, four horns, four attacks: north, south east west – they have come against my church. But the Spirit of God says I have raised up four carpenters; I have raised up four craftsman that will deal with these horns, even the horns of the altar, where they have brought displeasure to the Lord. I will raise up craftsman that will go in and fix it up. God said the problem has come first. The horns speak of principalities that have risen against this nation. They have come and now they are devouring one another. Now I have raised up four, and that speaks not of four specific – but from the north and the south and the east and the west I have raised up one craftsman for each to deal with it, to take them out.

Four anointings that deal with the four principalities shall be placed upon your children. Young men, the apostles and the prophets of tomorrow shall deal with the four principalities. God said, over the Christmas season I will send a sign to you. There will be a sign in the heavens; there will be a sign that shall come to the earth. I will show myself in a very strong way, yet invisible to the eye, and yet tangible to others, and these four principalities that have brought curses to the families of the United States, to the governing powers of the United States, to churches in this land and to the economy, the Spirit of God said these four are now being dealt with and annihilated says the Lord by the four anointings that I’m releasing upon you tonight says the Lord!

The word I get is “severing” – He is severing the stronghold of the curses that have come by invitation, by forces in the political powers in the political arena, they have invited them. And who shall control this nation? Who shall control my children in this nation? Shall it be the powers that be in the political field? No. For God said my church is the ruling power and I speak not of the system, I speak not of the religious system. The Spirit of God said I speak of my church, the Spirit filled redeemed, the blood washed. You have a blood mark on you, says the Lord. I purchased you with a price. You are my destiny says the Lord!

Who is going to control my children? Who is it that will control what’s gonna happen for the youth? Who is it? Though they legislate God said I will break it down. In 2010 there will be a change in the middle of the year, an assassination attempt against your President which I will cause to hold back three groups that shall rise up. But the Spirit of God said I will be merciful. Then there will be changes in the man’s heart, huge changes. There will be a turn to the true Christ, not the false Christ, not the false Christ, the true Christ!

Liberals will say “We are in danger; we are in danger of such a change. Even his countenance has changed, even his eyes have changed.” God said who do you think that I am? I am the one who can take kings and turn them around by the scruff of their neck. I have the hook that I placed in many kings’ mouths and caused them to go into insanity because of their disobedience.

It shall not be so for this nation I created and brought into existence for my purpose and for my destiny says the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God said I am listening to the rejoicing of my people for this nation has come to a place of intolerance of Christ because of the system that has misrepresented him. That system is being crippled says the Lord, annihilated. Every kingdom that can be shaken will be shaken.

God said the corruption that you have felt, the fear that you have had because of the predictions of a long year of recession, have I not laughed at that and showed you that could not happen. When this prophet prophesied that Ford Motor Company would not go down, it would be a sign to America that I will salvage its heritage. And I will take cars from this nation and I will send them throughout the earth and you will be known as America the great again. And God said, this that has brought fear to your lives, God said I will change it over the season. How? It will begin to change over the season. And the Lord says as you enter into 2010 I will restore everything that the canker worm has taken away, everything that the grasshopper has stolen from you, God said this restoration shall manifest quicker than before. Therefore rejoice tonight, you are my portion, says the Lord!

An Urgent Call for the Right Ammunition for Our Spiritual Weapons

With all of the spiritual weapons I have seen being used in our war against the enemy, I am beginning to wonder and ask, "Lord, do we have the right ammunition? What is the right ammunition?" Having the wrong ammunition in a weapon is like any one of us holding onto a ministry position we are not (or are no longer) called to—at which point we wonder why the ranks of our army are not effective.

Being Ejected into a Higher Purpose

Sometimes God will allow our ministry to be rejected by man so He can eject us into His higher purpose! Remember that God is always looking out for us to go higher but not necessarily our ministry. The word "reject" means "to throw away." The word "eject" means "to drive out forcefully, to force to leave." If you think you and your ministry have been rejected by people and circumstances, you may be, in God's eyes, "ejected" into your higher calling.

Recently, I was praying for a Pastor who was seeking a word from the Lord because he needed direction. He told me nothing about his situation so I wouldn't be influenced by the information in hearing from the Lord. I then saw a vision of a pump shotgun. When this type of gun is pumped, it automatically ejects the empty shell of ammunition so the next shot can be loaded into the gun.

I saw this Pastor's ministry as an empty "shell" that was seemingly being "rejected" by all appearance, in his own eyes and by many in his congregation. But his ministry was actually being ejected in God's eyes, so that the Lord could use him in an even greater way. Remember that God is always looking out for us to go higher, but not necessarily our ministry.

I then saw the Lord loading the minister himself into this gun to be shot out where he has never gone before, into an apostolic calling. Just like a shotgun having many BBs in its shot to hit a wider range of target, the Lord spoke, "There is a ministry that scatters and yet increases! This Pastor's ministry advancing now will begin to hit many targets far and near."

Sometimes our present ministry must be ejected from our lives in order for God to use us in His higher purposes. I sense many ministries in this hour may appear to be retreating but are actually advancing in another direction! I have seen this in ministries and in my own. What I enjoyed doing was seemingly rejected by others, but it was God "ejecting" that part of my ministry in order for me to be used in a greater way. I loved that part of ministry so much that I would probably never have given it up on my own, so God used people to help me give it up!

I am not condoning having a rejection complex and thinking everyone is out to reject you or your ministry. You must keep a right spirit and have patience toward those who oppose you until God does the ejection through the rejection. I believe that when it's of God and in His timing, you will experience an "injection" of His presence and a peace that passes all understanding.

You Are the Ammunition

While searching for our spiritual weapons, I have found the ammunition for them...WE ARE IT! Recently in a glorious atmosphere of worship, and yet wondering why our weapons of warfare seemed to be lacking in power against the enemy, I sensed the Lord saying, "Can I load you into My cannons?"

Up until now, we seemed to have given God our worship, prayers and invested money to help build His army, but He was now requiring us to become His ammunition for His weapons. He seemed to be saying, "You are all I have to use on this earth to overcome the enemy! Trust Me and let Me load you into My weapons." He needs nothing else but us completely surrendered to Him to be loaded into His spiritual cannons, guns and warships.

The revelation of us becoming His ammunition dawned on me: a cannon ball knows that it is not coming back! The ammunition in a gun knows it will not return from where it was shot out! I sensed a very serious call that I have forgotten over the years, that the call of God is a one way ticket with no turning back. If we even think about turning back we will.

This call reminded me of what I have read of past generations when the call of God came so strongly for many to go to the mission fields in other countries of the world. These called out people took their call so seriously that when they boarded the ships to these nations, they also boarded their caskets on the ship with them. They knew they weren't coming back! If they even thought about returning, they would have. They knew the day they chose to follow Jesus was the day they died to self.

They overcame him by the Blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.—Revelation 12:11

Likewise, the Lord is calling us to go all the way with Him on this offensive attack, on a one-way ticket. Spiritual cannons, guns, and warships are now poised and aimed at enemy targets. Ammunition is now being summoned...we are it! Are we willing?

The Watchman's Taruah

Our first stop in the United States this past summer was in Oregon, where we were invited to a conference called "Love for Israel", with the main theme being "The Watchman". As we were examining the scriptures to use for our breakout session, YHVH led us to Habakkuk 2:1-2: "I will stand on my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to [literally "in"] me, and what I will answer when I am reproved. Then YHVH answered me and said: 'Write the vision and make it plain on tablets that he who reads it may run".

The watchman comes up with this statement against the backdrop of Chapter One, where we find him observing what is taking place in his own backyard, with hostility, iniquity, wickedness, strife, contention, lawlessness, and perverted justice being commonplace (see vs 1-4). But instead of attending to his task, the bewildered watchman lodges his complaint before YHVH, who apparently is not being moved by this evil. However, YHVH is about to address His messenger's grievance, but will do so in an unexpected manner. Thus He proceeds to declare: "Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because I am doing something in your days-- You would not believe if you were told" (1:5).

YHVH then goes on to describe in detail the astonishing phenomenon to which He had just alluded, that is, the "Chaldeans" whom He had been raising up. In today's geopolitical terms the land of the Chaldeans is the heartland of Islam. Here is how YHVH depicts this people group: "… fierce and impetuous people who march throughout the earth to seize dwelling places which are not theirs. They are dreaded and feared. Their justice and authority originate with themselves. All of them come for violence ("hamas"). They collect captives like sand. They mock at kings, and rulers are a laughing matter to them. They laugh at every fortress… (1:6-10). Responding to this prediction, the prophet/watchmen intones: "You, O YHVH, have appointed them to judge; and You, O Rock, have established them to correct…" (v. 12b). The watchman is now gaining understanding how the Judge of Israel will be dealing with His people who have strayed from His ways.

These "Chaldeans" are portrayed as hunters who are laying nets in order to capture their pray: "They take up all of them with a hook, They catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet. Therefore they rejoice and are glad. Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their dragnet…Will they therefore empty their net and continually slay nations without sparing?" (1:15-17 emphasis mine). The Hebrew word for "net" here is "cherem", being the very word that is used in Malachi 4:6: "And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children [Heb. – "sons"], and the hearts of the children [Heb. – "sons"] to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a "cherem" [generally translated "curse"].

Interestingly, the watchman, as he is described in Chapter Two verses 1-2 is watching to hear what YHVH would speak ("into him", as mentioned above). How does one watch to hear? Obviously YHVH is putting his messenger through a season of training. To be well prepared for his task he needs to become one with the vision. In fact, he is also being reproved, so that he would become the very "proof" of this vision (similarly, "proof" is also embedded within the Hebrew noun used here for "reproof"). Therefore when time comes for passing on the message, there will be an impartation, or infusion, of the vision. The vision will be so clear, that there will be no guessing as to what is being seen and heard. What's more, in the injunction of making the message "plain on tablets" (2:2) is a hidden reference to the Torah, as if YHVH is responding to the prophet's earlier complaint, "the Torah is ignored" (1:4). "Making plain" is "ba'er", which is used only in Deuteronomy 1:5 and 27:8, in both cases in relationship to Moses expounding on the Torah. The verb b.e.r. shares its root with the noun "be'er", which is a "well". Thus, the elucidated words of the Torah are likened to deep and thirst-quenching water. Additionally, the watchman is told to inscribe these Torah-based words on "lu'chot", tablets, the very same word used for the tablets that Moses brought down from the Mountain, as well as for the "tablets of the heart" (ref. Is. 30:8; Jer.17:1). Could these references to Torah also have something to do with the above-mentioned Malachi 4:4, where YHVH charges His people to remember the Torah of Moses and its commands and warns of the consequences of turning away from them?

Once the watchman is fully prepared to pass on the vision, "the one who reads it may run" (2:2b) with a good cause, because he is to issue a warning to YHVH's people, to turn from their evil and wicked ways. Hence they are described as"… the proud one, his soul is not right within him…Furthermore, wine betrays the haughty man, so that he does not stay at home. He enlarges his appetite like Sheol, and he is like death, never satisfied. He also gathers to himself all nations and collects to himself all peoples. Will not all of these take up a taunt-song against him, even mockery and insinuations against him, and say, 'Woe to him who increases what is not his-- For how long-- and makes himself rich with loans?' Will not your creditors rise up suddenly, and those who collect from you awaken? Indeed, you will become plunder for them. Because you have looted many nations, all the remainder of the peoples will loot you-- Because of human bloodshed and violence done to the land, to the town and all its inhabitants. Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house to put his nest on high to be delivered from the hand of calamity! You have devised a shameful thing for your house by cutting off many peoples; so you are sinning against yourself" (Hab. 2:5-10). This text is quite descriptive of what have been standard practices within the Judeo-Christian nations. The prophet Jeremiah warns that YHVH will first send the fishers, and then the hunters (ref. Jeremiah 16:16), which is once again a reference to Islam, as both Ishmael and Esau were hunters.

Will Ephraim, who has been dubbed "a watchman with my Elohim, a prophet;" (Hosea 9:8), pick up the mantle and follow through? Or will he be "a snare of a fowler in all his ways, [with] hatred in the house of his Elohim" (cont. Hos. 8)? Will he be the watchman/guard on Mount Ephraim who calls out, "let us go to Zion to YHVH our Elohim" (Jer. 31:6)? Or will he be likened to the "blind watchmen" and the "dumb dogs" who are "greedy" and "not satisfied" (Is. 56:10,11), much like those who were described above in Habbakuk 2:6,8,9 and 10?

At the Portland conference Ezekiel 33:7 was used as a launching pad: "Son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me". These words are couched in the following solemn context: "Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them: 'When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman, when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet [shofar] and warns the people, then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet [shofar] and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet [shofar], but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life. But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet [shofar] , and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand" (Ezekiel 33:2-6).

On this Yom Teruah may the watchmen attend to their task and stand on the ramparts with the silver trumpets and shofars and blow a clear and distinct call to repentance (Daniel 9: 4-19; Nehemiah 1: 5-11; Nehemiah 9: 5-38)!

James Goll prophesies over the Northwest.

In early 2009, James Goll was at a prophetic conference in Bellingham, WA. In that conference, he had a major prophetic word for the northwest region.

A friend sent me the audio file from that session of the conference (broken into 4 parts for easier sharing across the Internet), but I didn't feel the freedom to publish the word at the time.

Last night, I had a dream in which it seemed God was saying it's now time to process the files for easier listening, and to share the word. The dream was actually quite detailed. Since this website doesn't allow posting of audio-only files, I've processed the four files into one and added Jim's picture to make it a video file, which posts easily.

Here is that prophetic word for our region.
