PROPHETIC WORD FOR THE WEST COAST OF AMERICA –

I AM PREPARING TO POUR OUT FROM HEAVEN THE FEROCIOUS FIRE OF MY SPIRIT

"Yes" - says the Lord -" for many have said this is a hard place to break through - it is hard ground - it is not like the biblebelt - it is not like the heartland - But in this coming season, I tell you -" says the Lord - "..that even as the wildfires that blazed across California that could not be contained - that blazed with a ferocious fire - so I am in this day and in this season preparing to pour out from heaven the ferocious fire of my spirit across the West Coast of America.

JUST ONE SPARK

And even as one tinder spark set ablaze the forest fires - so too, I shall take a spark - says the Lord - JUST ONE SPARK - - I shall take the spark of the prayers of my saints who stand in California - I shall take the spark of the declarations of my Apostles, of my Prophets, of my intercessors - For I have seen the sowing and the plowing and the ground that has been wet with tears from those that have laboured incessantly in the heat of the day -

IN JUST ONE DAY

...and in just ONE DAY - says the Lord - Like a tinderbox - the outpouring of my Holy Spirit shall blaze across this state and beyond. And it shall burn with a flame that cannot be extinguished - and many, many, many of my servants who serve me in the West Coast shall know that THIS IS THAT which they have stood in the gap for - THIS IS THAT for which they have yearned - THIS IS THAT which they have seen in their spirits –

And many shall say It is Azuza - But I say to you - This coming move of my spirit - is in a different flow and a different dispensation from that which has gone before -

FOR I SHALL BREATH A FRESH NEW BREATH UPON CALIFORNIA

For I shall breath a fresh new breath upon California. And my church shall blaze with the fierceness of its rising - and the fear - yes the FEAR the fear of the Living God - the fear of the Lord of Hosts shall fall - and it shall fall upon my church. But as my church falls to its knees - so I shall pour out my spirit to those that reject me - to those that deny me - to those that refute my existence - and they shall say - GOD IS IN OUR MIDST -

I SHALL GATECRASH THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES

And I shall gatecrash - yes literally gatecrash the city of LOS ANGELES

- and there shall be a cleansing - says the Lord - yes even as the Lepers were cleansed by me - there shall be a cleansing in that day and in that hour. And my presence shall be known among the gatekeepers of the media and the entertainment industry. And my presence shall be known among the financiers. And my presence shall sweep the city of Los Angeles to the North and the South - to the East and the West of this state - And a great healing and forgiveness between races shall occur - for the love of my Son shall fall upon young men and old - the love of my Son shall overshadow the city -

SAN FRANCISCO - YOU HAVE BEEN FOUND WANTING

And San Francisco - I tell you - you have been weighed on the scales of my judgment and you have been found wanting - And yet I have cried for you - San Francisco - I have wept for you and reached out to you - I have sent my Apostles - I have sent my Prophets - I have sent my Pastors to heal your land - And still you have rejected me - But for a remnant - says the Lord - A remnant whose cries come before my throne day and night pleading for you San Francisco - For the weight of sin overwhelms you - and judgment - judgment - yes judgment is at hand - For the scales of sin are against you - Yet still I reach out to you - and implore you repent - For a shaking draws near to you San Francisco - a SHAKING - a SHAKING - yes - a shaking draws near - and you shall be in a manner of moments BE BROUGHT TO YOUR KNEES -

PROMISE OF PROTECTION FOR GODS SERVANTS

But for all those who have faithfully served me and stood in the gap - I shall be their HIGH TOWER - And they shall know MY protection and MY covering of their families and their possessions - and the destroyer shall pass them over - I will not - NO - I will not in any means fail them - FOR THEY ARE MINE but I tell you - that in these latter days I shall pour out my spirit upon you - And even in the streets men and women will cry out to me and know my grace and know my presence - I shall not forsake you in that day- even though you have not known me San Francisco - And THEN shall revival break forth in this city - And those dreams and the visions in the late night hour, that I have shown my servants who protect the city Gates - SHALL COME TO PASS. THEY SHALL COME TO PASS. THEY SHALL COME TO PASS.YOU SHALL YET SEE THEM IN YOUR DAY.

And the flame that has been lit in the WEST COAST shall SET ABLAZE A TORCH that shall be lit that will blaze from generation to generation - and ASIA yes even ASIA shall be affected by this - And I shall send missionaries out from the West Coast to ASIA - to AUSTRALASIA - to VIETNAM - to JAPAN - to MALAYSIA - Yes - the torch shall blaze.

Editorial Comment: Every revelation requires interpretation and application. A word like this can sound very judgmental, harsh, condemning, hopeless; but I believe that is in the interpretation: in the hands of a God who is love, judgment must be a loving act. If this is a word from God, then it is a word of love, not of condemnation. Listen for the love.

Second, the word must be applied. If we listen to (or read) a word like this, and as a result, we give up hope for the cities mentioned, then we have failed to represent God's heart. If we pause in our intercession, or if we counsel the people of God to abandon these cities, we miss God's purposes. Abraham argued mercy against God's judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah, and because of his intercession - and because of the presence of a small number of godly people in the cities - he negotiated far more mercy for them than God had originally announced.

AMERICA - A CALL TO PRAYER

For this is the day that I’m calling my people, for this is the day and the hour that I’m calling my people to pray. And it is in this day and in this hour that I’m calling my people to pray for America, says the Lord of Hosts.

For I tell you - you have seen attacks here and attacks there, but a great darkness tries to arise against you, America. There comes a darkness and a violent assault against you, and the things you have seen and experienced in the past are but the beginning of an onslaught in the spirit realm that heralds in the season of the very end of days.

And so my children, I call you beloved - come stir yourselves as the mighty men of old from your closets.

And so my children I call you Intercessors, I call my Ministers, I call my Prophets, I call my Apostles, Awake! Awake!

Be stirred up with my might.

Be stirred up with my power.

For I call you from the East and from the West from the South and from the North to cry out for this nation - Cry out - Cry out for this nation.

‘Cry out - cry out!” says the spirit of the Living God - ‘and do not cease from your groaning- For what the enemy would seek to wrest upon you, America, I the Living God say to you - It shall be thwarted - the terror and the burning and the violence that would be propogated against you New York - against you, Washington DC- against you - California - even that which has been planned for the Mid West says the Lord - shall be greatly impeded by the prayers of my saints.

So this day I search for a people who will stand in the gap for cities whose right hands are filled with iniquity - And as I search I weep, for the walls and the cisterns of the east are broken and fragmented and I call upon my people to build up the walls - I call you by my spirit to mend the cisterns - to build up the broken places -Build I say - Build - Protect - Protect in the spirit realm - And see what I - the Living God will do.

For if my people, called by My Name will stand in the gap and cry out to me for deliverance - surely I tell you - the plans and the strategies of the enemy shall be hindered in mid-track - for there shall be an exposing and an uncovering of strategy and of times and of people, even of places says the Lord - yes - even as my saints stir themselves to prayer - so shall it be - that even in the high places of office many shall start to operate by the gift of discernment and the word of knowledge - and the searing light of My Spirit shall expose the strategies of darkness and even time after time again and again the webs of deceit planned against you, America shall be exposed and disentangled and rendered ineffective against you.

- For I tell you that even as my people rise up and cry out for deliverance so the Mighty Battalions of My Angelic Hosts shall be released across the cities and the skies across America. The skies! The skies - says the Lord - and mighty angelic canopies of protection shall be released in the heavenlies across entire cities - Entire states shall know my Angelic protection in the days of visitation that lie ahead.

For surely America - days of visitation - days of visitation shall sweep across this nations in the hour ahead.

Oh - for many of my servants have cried out to me in their closets for revival. Revival! And I tell you - that for all who have laid their lives down in the secret place - to all who have spent their hours in prayer and in supplication - to all who have stood in the gap pleading for this nation - so I tell you that in this next hour - the Spirit of Revival and the Spirit of Visitation is about to sweep this nation in a manner hitherto unprecedented - yes and where in years gone by there have been outbreaks and pockets of visitation

So I tell you that in this next season America - Prepare! Prepare yourselves for a mighty living torrent of my spirit to flood this nation. For surely I have heard my Pastors - for surely I have hearkened to my Prophets and my Evangelists as they have cried out to me - for surely they have seen this Hour of Visitation. The hour when the very fear and wonder of my Name and My presence shall yet sweep both the the churched and the unchurched of this nation, America - the Hour of Visitation.

Lakeland Revival Apostolic Commissioning

The meeting began with one-and-a-half hours of anointed worship by Michael Larson. The theme song of the night is SHOW US YOUR GLORY, LORD!

TODD BENTLEY:
Todd went to Concord, NC on June 19 for one night only to see what would happen if they took the revival out of Lakeland. So many people came they shut down the freeway for 12 miles and about 15,000 were turned away at the door. Todd will be in Lakeland for the summer but will be doing some more of these one-night only meetings in various states. God said that the anointing as it goes out of Lakeland will be greater than the anointing in Lakeland. We’ve heard about the “Jesus Woodstocks.” I believe it’s here!

God told Todd two things tonight:
1. For about 15 years, God has been building networks of ministries…these have dug the canals to prepare for the Glory! God will use the networks to bring in the harvest.

2. Children 12 and under are the emerging generation of revivalists! Some of the most powerful things that have happened in this revival are the young children sharing visions of heaven…five year olds are laying hands on the sick and they are being healed!

This is not about Todd Bentley or ANY of US. It’s about JESUS! We have stepped into GOD’S KAIROS TIME! We’re just the fruit of another man’s labor! Whole cities will come into revival. Todd saw in January 1999 over 100 healing revivals that would be burning simultaneously. God has showed him only 12 of those cities at this time. God says the other cities are still to be determined by who is the most hungry.

Don’t sit back and be entertained. Don’t be a spectator. Don’t miss the boat.

Todd’s team is working on getting verifications and video testimonies of many of the healings and miracles that have happened.

Psalm 2 proclaimed

The unity of the believers coming together has the weight to release the glory to take the nations. Only when streams and movements merge is there real apostolic weight to take over whole cities and nations! The healings and miracles in this revival have been amazing, but the one thing that is most important to me is the HIGH PRAISE…THE GLORY of GOD. The Glory of God is the only thing that can take cities and nations! RELEASE THE ANOINTING TO TAKE CITIES! It’s going to sweep through America. Release mantles to take whole nations! A Spirit of Revival is being injected tonight! BELIEVE FOR IT IN YOUR CITY TONIGHT!

Who will be a steward? Who will lay everything else down and make room for a fresh anointing? God is digging so many wells, re-digging wells. I know one way you can have God visit you. You might have to steward the little coal God gives you until it explodes into a huge fire! It’s happening at Morningstar. John and Carol Arnott want it again in Toronto. Associate Bobby Sullivan is leading 5 revivals all over Ireland.

NBC news is coming in two days. As of tonight we are verifying our 27th Resurrection from the dead!

Tonight’s commissioning is very important. Bob Jones called and said, “Tonight the Poison stops.” Sometimes I feel like, God forgive me! I’m blowing up the world! (In a good way!)

Dr. Wagner invited the Holy Spirit’s power and direction. This is a ceremony to commission the apostolic alignment of Todd Bentley. He read Ephesians 4 regarding the five-fold ministry for purpose of equipping of the saints. Equipping means alignment…such as setting a bone! Spoke of biblical apostolic relationships such as that of Paul and Timothy.

Dr. Wagner asked Bill Johnson, Che Ahn and John Arnott if they recognized God in what is happening through Todd’s ministry. Yes! He then asked Todd if he recognized the apostolic authority of the three men? Yes! With that we will move to the commissioning. I decree to Todd Bentley, your power, authority, influence, revelation will increase! I also decree that a new life force will flow through this ministry. Increase of discernment!

CHE AHN – Asked forgiveness for lateness…airplane held up. Bob Jones prophesied Is. 22:22 that you would go to a whole new level on June 22, and here we are just one day later. It is significant that we have three generations of apostles here. I recognize that God has chosen and appointed you to bear much fruit. He has called you as an evangelist and a revivalist…we as your brothers and your friends are here to stand with you and Shonnah and your ministry. Chuck Pierce is in Africa – he sent this special oil to anoint you! (Huge power blast…Todd hits the floor…the whole place is electric!)

JOHN ARNOTT – We love you and what is happening here. You are leading an amazing charge. Multitudes are getting behind you! We bless this charge in the name of Jesus, and we stand with you.

BILL JOHNSON – When David wanted Uriah killed he sent him into battle and withdrew, we will not do that. Tonight we are shaping the course of history! I pray that Moses that no longer be considered the high water mark because he talked to God face to face, but that the world we see the Glory that is on you!

You have loosed a kingly anointing to bring forth wealth and governmental power.

On behalf of New Zealand, Australia and America I speak favor for you in all those nations, may you be blessed. May the report be great and mighty!

Years from now people will look at this time and remember it as the time God showed up! I will bring forth that which is new, that which is pure. This is the heart that I will not despise…the one that cries “I can’t live without your presence! No program will be a substitute.” History will measure it by HEART, says the Lord.

As a Spaniard, we welcome this revival to the whole Spanish-speaking world!

Behold the vanguard that is cutting through the ice of religious traditions! Behind you is a great ship fit for battle! Arise, kill and eat young man! No longer will men call unclean what I have called clean!

Rick Joyner – God has sent you as an antidote for the lukewarm spirit. You have unstopped the well here…there are more wells to unstop...oil wells that will catch on fire!

The Lord has made you a detonator. Great Britain will be set ablaze. There is a Portal Anointing over whatever city you enter! Boom, Boom, Boom, you will detonate!

I see the word HONOR is written over you tonight. You have blessed us and we honor you, and affirm that the rest of HONOR that is upon you will follow you into all the nations.

Stacey Campbell: Moses said, Show me your Glory! This was the pinnacle of Moses life. This came after the deliverance from Egypt, the giving of the law, after eating with God and the 70 elders. In this pinnacle prayer he had to hide Moses in the cleft of the rock and only show him his hinder parts. The Lord God is merciful, compassionate, gracious and abounding in truth…forgiving transgression. When we were singing that song tonight, TODD, I heard, “Because you have asked what very few men on the earth have asked, to see my GLORY, I will move beyond revival.” AND JESUS, FILLED WITH JUSTICE AND TRUTH SAID, LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE! Todd, I have chosen you BECAUSE OF YOUR BACKGROUND to release my nature! I will use you to father a movement that operates in such power…that a whole generation will move in such signs and wonders and power that people will give glory to God! When you were 12, God started to speak to me about a generation of nation changers that will release the Glory of God in all its fullness. YOU are the First Fruits of those nation changers!

GEORGIAN BANOV – We give you the keys to Eastern Europe. Abba says you are a well pleasing son. Dad is releasing his pleasure on you…like the pleasure he took on his son who bore our sins. (Then Jim called so I missed the second thing! I chewed him out though, in love! Smile.)

CHE AHN – Shonnah called up to stand with Todd. John 17 is being fulfilled tonight and on the earth in these days. We seal this commissioning with this ring. I am reminded of Paul saying, “A door has opened up for me in Ephesus…amidst great opposition.” Everyone, please lift up Todd and Shonnah and Fresh Fire Ministries. We are standing with you in this revival!

I thank God tonight for all the leaders and friends and apostles who have come to stand with us. What God is doing on the earth today is about TEAM. It’s about UNITY. Also want to give honor to my senior leadership team and our board of directors. (Called up on stage.) I received a prophetic word in April that through this revival God would establish GOVERNMENT, and that what happens here wouldn’t stop. Now I realize that this is the fulfillment of Is. 22:22 – revival of the GOVERNMENT OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD! Let’s stand and cry out for the Glory of the Lord! Something was just released in apostolic authority. I want to give all the Glory back to Jesus. Let’s open the altars and worship HIM.

God, I pray that you would UNCAP EVERY WELL OF REVIVAL. God is looking for those will steward this revival. I bless every PASTOR, every LEADER, every HARVESTER, and I release the anointing.

BILL JOHNSON: I’m going to release a Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation on you. God, I pray for tens of thousands of Revivalists who have Wisdom and Revelation about how you move, that we might not grieve or quench, but that we might be tools in your hands!

CHE AHN: Where there is UNITY, God commands a blessing (PSALM 133) of LIFE FOREVERMORE! I see thousands of Todd Bentleys! God is raising up an army of saints…of revivalists! You are the temple of the Holy Spirit! We claim that Psalm 133 anointing. Right now I break the power division over many people…of divorce…the spirit of infirmity…the spirit of poverty…generational curses.

CAROL ARNOTT: Gave a Mother’s blessing. You are a nurturing God. I bless them to be sons and daughters of the Most High God. I ask that you lift off everything of abandonment, of abuse, as they put their hands in yours. I pray for blessing upon blessing!

A Northwest Perspective on Florida's Healing Revival

It's interesting the amount of interest in the Northwest about the healing revival going on in Florida. It is by far the most searched subject on this website, and on blog that I manage! Personally, I believe that the phenomenon that they are experiencing is only a foretaste of what the church in the Northwest - should we press into the promise to the point of capturing it - will walk in and export around the nation.

So it's with great interest that I've been watching how revival is progressing in Washington. Since "the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy," testimonies of limited revival now work also as prophecy of greater revival to come. I'm aware of several places around the Northwest where revival fires are breaking out: Vancouver, Moses Lake, Olympia, Marysville, Bellingham, Blaine. It's very exciting!

So in the interest of testifying of the revival is breaking out in the Northwest, in the spirit of prophecy, I offer a testimony from the revival in Marysville, Washington:

Day 33 - Of Healing Revival! The Glory Presence Increases... Healings, Miracles, Signs & Wonders continue... We are going on with it nightly! Check these healings out! 6/15/08 - Merrily approached the alter at service only to receive an impartation to take back to her home church - while on her way up, she received a healing in both of her knees - she can now bend her knees without hurting! 6/15/08 - As a small group prayed during service, one of the youth called out a word of knowledge in reference to a spine being healed - Rebecca spoke up as being the person needing that healing in her back - she felt something moving around in her back as well as heard some cracking - the others praying also felt something moving around in Rebecca's back - she is now healed! 6/15/08 - Jake had trouble with his right knee - during service he said unto God, "I quit" - upon his surrender, his knee was completely healed. 6/14/08 - Ginny came to the revival service with strained muscles and spasms in her back and hips - her condition was several months old - Timmothy Sherman called out a word of knowledge in reference to a 4th vertabra & a right hip healing - simply by responding to the voice of God, Ginny was healed on her way to the front of the church, even before prayer was administered - Ginny no longer needs her old pain medication. 6/12/08 - Lady claims to have been healed from kidney stones in her home during the revival! 6/10/08 - Family needing gas money received prayer. Family then received their paycheck which was supposed to be $330, but instead was written for $630. Boss decided to include 40 hours vacation time, as well as Memorial Day pay. 6/10/08 - Lady felt extreme warmth in her ankles and feet. She had surgery on one of these feet where the doctors fused her ankle with two rods (unable to be moved). She was in a wheel chair for nearly a year, but now she can run, dance, stand on her tip toes and rotate her ankle. 6/8/08 - Asthma, stomach, spinal back pain - pain left - able to move freely without pain. 6/7/08 - Mid-back pain, unable to bend over - pain went from 10 to 0 at time of prayer. 6/7/08 - Hearing loss (moderate) - hearing is nearly perfect - same in both ears! 6/7/08 - Ideo Pulmonary Fibrosis and bacterial infections in lungs - he is breathing so much better this evening - hopes to be able to run and exercise without oxygen tank. 6/7/08 - Varicose veins - word of knowledge and pain left - can kneel without pain and touch her leg without any pain! 6/6/08 - Back pain - pain left. 6/5/08 - Same person as previous date (legs were weak) - shoulders not able to raise - left arm and shoulder pain left, while right shoulder pain is still there, but waiting for complete healing. 6/5/08 - Legs weak and could not run - after prayer he ran around the church (hadn't been able to run in 10 years). 6/5/08 - Ripped bamiscus/pain in right knee - pain is not there now - can now stand without pain! 6/5/08 - Pulmonary hypertension/compression fractures - chest is pain free - can now breathe better. 6/5/08 - Can now breathe. 6/5/08 - Cyst on back of knee - healed in worship - cyst gone (was size of large grape). 6/5/08 - Arthritic pains - pain gone - can now twist wrist without pain and walk without pain. 6/5/08 - 5 herniated discs in back, arthritis - pain subsided, spine straightened, new lung on the way - can now stand, sit, bend and move without pain. 6/4/08 - Severe back pain - after prayer, no pain - can now move without pain. 6/3/08 - Nail went through foot - causing pain - no pain now. 6/3/08 - Osteoporosis - healed - no pain. 6/1/08 - Lady healed of fibromyalgia. Claims she could not sit on the floor for more than a few seconds, but now she can. She also goes through the day without the original persistent pain. 6/1/08 - Healing for scar tissue was released unto the church. Lady testified that her old scar tissue from hernia surgery was beginning to dissolve two days later. She says the knot behind her belly button is gone! She can now eat food without extreme abdominal pains. 6/1/08 - Grandmother reports that her grandson was healed of upper respiratory and sinus disorder. She claims that he awoke the next morning breathing better, but now is completely healed and breathes and plays freely. 5/30/08 - John was healed of a broken foot. He felt a burning sensation in his foot and can now jump and run without pain. He also received Jesus as Savior. 5/29/08 - Had Prinz Metal Angina or variant angina. The pain was so much that she did not want to come, but her husband wanted her to come. During worship, God said, "Will you praise me in thanksgiving now?" She said, "YES!" She began to worship and praise God! Now she can breathe deep with no pain. 5/29/08 - Could only hear 40% in left ear. She felt warmth and felt the canal open up and could hear instantly. Now she hears very well and there is no more "swimming" and everything is clear. 5/28/08 - He was suffering form self-condemnation because he went to church instead of raising his step-father from death - his death came very suddenly on 5/21/08 - Eric was in the Glory for about a week after his death. He woke up and his hair and hands were oily and the oil was perfumed. He went back to sleep praising God and knowing God's loves him. Now he can accept and love himself, because he's listening to God. 5/27/08 - This child (about age 10) said she was healed when her friend Alexis (also age 10) touched her head. She had an eye that was burning and hurt badly. The pain slowly went away. Now she can move her left eye without pain. 5/27/08 - Michaela had Patella Femoral Syndrome (a growing disorder). Doctors said she would have it forever. Her knee burned hot and then she felt torn muscles mend as they tingled. Now she can run, jump and bend without pain - she can't feel it tearing now. 5/27/08 - Andy had a deteriorating disc in his back which gave him sharp pains. He went up for healing on 5/23/08 and had a heat come over him and hasn't had any back pains since. He can now stand for long period of time. 5/27/08 - Sarah had an eczema-type condition on her left hand. Timothy Sherman said to receive your healing and was naming diseases and her arm got hot and she knew her hand was healed. 5/25/08 - Claims that Jesus healed her of intense pain in her lower back. She was so tense when she came into the service tonight that she said, "I feel like a pretzel". She said that the power of God came upon her tailbone with a numbing sensation and that all the pain left her body immediately! 5/25/08 - Claims that Jesus healed her shoulder of great pain, as well as pain all over her entire body - says the doctors did not know why - had problem for several years - also had deep fears, unbelief and discouragement - she came that night with great struggle, as she had no strength with in her own body - came up during worship and began to beckon God to heal her body - the power of God came upon her and she began to dance before the Lord - danced all night with tears of joy and laughter - came the next night and claimed to still be healed and that she was able to workout (exercise) and do 10 pushups! 5/25/08 - Claims that Jesus healed her right knee - was injured in an automobile accident and was difficult to walk on - she felt the power of God settle into her knee during the a.m. service - she felt a continued healing during the p.m. service - felt her muscles reattaching to her knee - the power of God went up and down her back - she now has more flexibility and can do physical things she could not do prior to the healing. 5/24/08 - Claims that Jesus opened up her heart and gave her the ability to feel His love for her in a deeper way. She could not feel His presence before, but now she can! 5/24/08 - Claims that Jesus healed her from cataracts - she felt the power of God come upon her like a heat, electricity and great joy/laughter - this took away a great heaviness she was carrying concerning her child. 5/24/08 - Claims that Jesus healed her sinuses and healed her from diabetes - her sinuses cleared up and she could breathe again - she also said that the numbness in her hands and feet went away. 5/24/08 - Claims that Jesus healed his skin of eczema - he says, "That it just started to disappear and that his skin does not itch anymore". 5/22/08 - Came into church looking for a healing from a work injury in his shoulder - had great pain that hindered him from doing his job - a few of us prayed for him Thursday along with others that evening and he awoke the next morning for work completely healed. 5/21/08 - Was healed of Diversticulosis (which is hole-like pockets in her large intestine/colon) - she felt the love of God and the power of God all over her body - says that she can now eat berries and seeds without having a flare up in her colon - Debbie also felt a shock like feeling hit her right knee - knee was injured and very stiff - she can now move her knee with no pain. 5/21/08 - Was set freed from suppressed grief due to 6 deaths in one year. 5/21/08 - Was healed of a great fear inside her heart due to abandonment as a child.

An Appeal for Unity in a Divisive Season: A Critique of the Lakeland Revival

The Lakeland Revival has created tensions over doctrine and ministry styles. To avoid a crippling rift in the church we need strong leadership, clear discernment and a lot of love.

Revival is messy. As much as we would love for it to come in a neat and orderly package, history teaches us that outbreaks of the Holy Spirit are often accompanied by holy chaos. There may be conversions and healings in one corner and demonic manifestations in the other. In seasons of revival you can have miracles and mayhem. Holiness and heresy can erupt simultaneously.

When we look at the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts, we tend to focus on the positives: Dead people were raised, whole villages were saved and prison doors were opened supernaturally. On the flip side, this same revival season was interrupted by riots, opposed by religious legalists and tainted by false prophets, greedy charlatans and demons masquerading as angels.

Why must revival movements be so muddled? Perhaps it is because imperfect people (as well as sinister devils) get involved. Strange things happen when God’s power touches a sinful earth.

When revival hit Wales in 1904, almost an entire nation bowed before Jesus within two years. Yet the weight of God’s presence drove the revival’s humble leader, Evan Roberts, into depression. Meanwhile author Jessie Penn-Lewis, writing in her book War on the Saints, suggested that fleshly manifestations in Welsh prayer meetings had snuffed out the Spirit’s power.

In our nation today thousands have been swept into the current of the Lakeland Revival in Florida, which began in early April in evangelist Todd Bentley’s meetings at Ignited Church. The fervor quickly spread because of God TV’s broadcasts, and today up to 10,000 gather nightly at a venue near the city’s airport. In recent days, people who were touched in Lakeland have started similar meetings in Atlanta, Chicago, Charlotte, N.C. and other cities. Bentley and his colleagues believe this is the beginning of a worldwide healing revival that will cover the globe.

But not everyone in the charismatic/Pentecostal community is convinced. Some say this is the last end-time revival while others maintain it is a demonic counterfeit. Cult-watchers and anti-heresy bloggers post Bentley’s comments on YouTube as evidence of a theological scandal. Revival advocates respond by posting documented evidence of healings. It all begins to resemble a childish competition.

Still others worry that Lakeland represents a questionable mixture of truth and error. Since the initial eruption of the revival, my inbox has been full of messages from charismatic leaders who are concerned about weighty issues as well as trivial ones: Everything from Bentley’s tattoos and body piercings to his claim that he once interviewed the apostle Paul in heaven.

When I wrote an article in mid-May calling for scrutiny of some aspects of the Lakeland Revival, I was labeled a Pharisee and a “religious policeman.” People who said they had been deeply impacted by the Holy Spirit in Lakeland used spiritual threats and harsh terms to tell me that I had become the enemy.

I refuse to go on the defensive, and if I need to retract any statement I’ve ever made about this revival I will. But what these nasty exchanges have shown me is that a divisive spirit is certainly at work in our midst—and we need urgent prayer to short-circuit what the devil wants to do.

When the early church was hit with the issue of Jewish legalism, Paul and Barnabas determined that the answer was to seek the counsel of “the apostles and elders” in Jerusalem (Acts 15:2, NASB). The church was being divided because the legalists were insisting that gentiles be circumcised. But when the elders looked into the matter, the apostle James settled the dispute by issuing this wise ruling:

“Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the gentiles, but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood” (v. 19-20). In other words, James affirmed the gentiles’ access to salvation and overturned the legalists’ bad doctrine.

Based on this biblical example, I am appealing to the elders in our movement. We need to hear from them in this hour. In a desperate moment we need older, seasoned veterans to release the counsel of the Lord.

Today the charismatic movement has become fractured, and opposing camps have formed. On one side there are those in the apostolic camp who tend to emphasize biblical order, proper church government, spiritual warfare and the reformation of society. On the other side are those in the prophetic camp who focus on miracles, healing, mystical experiences and the reclaiming of all the supernatural manifestations of the New Testament.

Both of these camps are contending for valid, biblical truths. We need the prophetic and the apostolic! We need miracles as much as we need healthy church growth and societal change. Yet if we do not have a holy intervention, we could bite and devour one another—and cancel out our collective impact.

A biblical council must include the leaders of both of these camps. And leaders must address all of the difficult issues triggered by the Lakeland Revival. Those include:

1. Biblical guidelines about angels. Some people in the prophetic camp speak of frequent visits to heaven, “third heaven revelations,” and long conversations with angels who use names such as Emma, Promise and Winds of Change. Are these indeed spirits sent from God, or agents of false light?

2. A proper theology of the dead. Some in the prophetic camp claim they have had conversations with dead Christians—including Paul the apostle. Is this within the bounds of Christian experience, or is it necromancy?

3. Pastoral guidance about exotic spiritual manifestations. In some circles in our movement, unusual signs and wonders have been reported in church services—including the sudden appearance of gold dust, feathers, gemstones and oil. At the same time, worshipers are vibrating on the floor, jerking uncontrollably and acting intoxicated. How can we protect people from the abuse of manifestations, and from demonic influence, while at the same time leaving room for genuine encounters with God?

4. Clear guidelines concerning the restoration of fallen ministers. The appearance of one prominent fallen evangelist, Paul Cain, at the Lakeland Revival in May unleashed strong reactions from many sectors of the church. Many people feel unprotected when they sense that church leaders have chosen not to enforce proper discipline for a minister’s unbiblical behavior. In this adulterous generation, how can we draw lines to protect congregations while at the same time offer healing and grace to a repentant preacher?

These are some of the crucial questions we face as a movement. May we proceed with a fresh gift of discernment, while at the same time laying hold of all the blessings that revival will bring us.
