The Revelation Of The Son and Daughters

From March 15, 2010:

Last week I woke up to the most amazing vision- the most stunningly profound one I have yet to have- or probably ever will.

The Holy Spirit showed me what God is doing with mankind in His work to restore His creation. I saw God standing before a nesting doll. You know those dolls that click open and reveal another doll, and click open again to reveal another doll and so on and so on until you get to the one teeny tiny doll in the middle that is whole and solid and final. I saw God opening these shells of the doll and discarding them one by one and casting the empty shells aside.

I’m struggling to perfectly word what I saw as it was so simple, yet profound. I saw was God peeling all the stuff off this person until He got down the real person inside- the honest, naked truth, the healed whole submitted intimate friend that we should eventually become in our walk with Him. What I felt in my spirit was that this final little person, this end result is the restoration of the original creation that God created. This one freely loves Him, freely loves His creation, freely chooses to submit to being transformed back to God’s will, freely looks to fellowship in friendship and love with God and His creation in simple everyday life, and wisely asks for His wisdom and heart. This little one was not a little person, but a full grown mature Son/Daughter and friend of God who fully knew God and God fully knew them. I could tell by the emotion that I felt that neither God nor this little one would ever desire to hurt one another and would always seek the other’s heart- that they knew each other so intimately that they were one and could read each other’s hearts and minds perfectly.

As I saw God take off the last shell and reveal this tiny little person I saw the most profound thing I dare ever lay my eyes on. I saw God- in all His Glory and His fine crown and kingly robes climb down off of His throne and bend His knee and bow His head down to this little one. He bowed not in lowliness or mocking, but in mutual respect, dignity and friendship -submitting Himself equality to this little person who submitted to His hand. This little one asked for His help, His mind, His healing, His friendship and most of all His heart for others so that they could see the world through God’s eyes of love to help, not hinder, to love not condemn, to free not bind, to raise not bury, to speak truth not lies.
I saw God bow His head and bend His knee to those who have done the same to Him- who deliberately searched God’s heart as they opened up theirs to Him to do the same as they followed and submitted to Jesus as their Lord and Friend.

I saw God bow to His Friend, His bride and one who He considers His equal because this little one’s will and God’s have become one- because they have become one in heart, in mind and in spirit.

It was impressed into my heart that whatever this Friend of God asked of Him, God would give out of beautiful mutual submission- a submission built upon truth, love and kindness toward one another. This little one not only came to God for his own healing, but also asked God what heart pains He had and if he might be of assistance to heal Him right back. And I know God’s wound is His fallen creation and it’s unbelief in His love and Grace and open arms of healing, correction and restoration.

I stand in awe- and I saw as this vision left me I saw that God’s knee is just now bending.

Bob Jones: Zion

During the 2010 Open Heavens Conference at MorningStar, Bob Jones brought a timely prophetic word about Zion being birthed in the church. He shared about how God is wiring us with a heavenly infrastructure and empowering us to wake up the world with what the Lord is imparting to us.

Privately, he has said this is specifically coming to the Pacific Northwest.

Closer to home, Bob Jones reports that God has told him to come to the Northwest and release some things. Details are being finalized on a conference with Bob Jones and Bobby Connors in January of 2011, to be held in Central Washington. Details will be posted here, and on the Nor'west Prophetic page on Facebook.

To be notified, subscribe here (requires your confirmation), or become a "friend" on the Facebook page (requires our confirmation), or preferably both: the two are not duplicates.

Are there Prophetic Signs of a Third Great Awakening?

By Jon & Jolene Hamill

FIREBALL IN THE SKY
Bob Jones prophesied to Mike Bickle, when he was only 27 years old, that he needed to call a citywide fast in preparation for this move. And that on the first day of the fast, a comet previously undetected by scientists would flash across the sky as confirmation. On May 7, 1983, the first night of the 21 day fast, a comet previously undetected flashed across the sky. Many see that night as the beginning of what has now become the IHOP movement.

Over the next few days we’re going to further explore what this new move looks like. And we’ll look at a few confirmations of these prophetic perceptions, signs that cannot be manufactured or manipulated by the hand of man. Lets begin with a fireball that flashed across the skies of Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana only a week ago.

Fire in the Sky Once Again
On Thursday, April 15, Jolene and I were enjoying our second night at the IHOP Youth Awakening, which began on November 11, 2009. Over the past few days, we had spent much of our time in meetings, where we were honored to share insights the Lord had given us over many years on 11-11 and awakening.

The primary article we shared, called Covenantal Awakening, was originally posted on the Elijah List in November 2005. The article began by recounting how a fireball flashed across the sky on October 31, 2006 as a confirmation of a prophetic word on revival given at our church.

When we returned to our room Thursday evening, news reports began to filter in of a massive fireball, accompanied by sonic booms, seen that night in Missouri and four other midwestern states!

In both cases, the fireball in the sky was a meteor. It was as though God was using very personal language to confirm that the move we’ve all been praying for is truly now at hand. We are so grateful to the Lord for this!

With this we present to you the word “Covenantal Awakening.” Note that the word includes Jolene’s dream about the revival being “bigger than Finney.” We close the insights by exploring two primary covenantal legacies with Christ upon which our Nation has been founded.

Covenantal Awakening:
Fulfillment of Prophecies Point to New Season of Revival
By Jon & Jolene Hamill
November 11, 2005

In writing this prophetic perspective, I am keenly aware that we "see in part and prophesy in part." So let the witness of the Spirit guide you as we examine together recent events that indicate a major shift into a season of national awakening and revival.

In mid-October, Kim Clement prophesied there would be an "unusual occurrence" on October 31, which would be followed by a four-year season of harvest and the greatest move of the Spirit our nation has ever seen.

Kim prophesied this word at a conference with Cornerstone Fellowship in Frederick, MD, where Jolene and I serve as prayer coordinators. After talking with our pastors, we decided to pray as a church through the evening of October 31, standing for the Lord's promises to be fulfilled. Just after 9:00 p.m., while we were worshipping and praying, we experienced an "unusual occurrence." A few of the intercessors saw a huge fireball passing through the skies of Frederick!

Television news reported that the fireball was actually a meteor, seen from Philadelphia to south of Washington, D.C. Local 911 emergency centers were overrun with calls, and in the metro D.C. region, many reported the fireball was so bright it lit up the insides of their homes. One NASA scientist told a DC television station that "this is a rare event," and that he couldn't remember seeing another meteor this big in the past 12 years.

Confirming the Word
In line with Kim Clement's word, the fireball was definitely an unusual occurrence. I believe this was a sign from the Lord that the awakening we've all been praying for is now at hand. During the conference, Kim also reiterated a prophetic word he shared early in October that America would be mourning on October 31 and that within the dates of October 31 through November 1, our nation would be moving from death to life. He also prophesied that the breath of the Spirit would be restored in the northeast, with the eventual release of an anointing to even raise the dead in the greatest move of the Spirit our nation has ever seen.

Kim's word on the wind of the Spirit is remarkably similar to a prophecy given by Chuck Pierce in Vermont, on October 9.

On that night, Chuck prophesied that the awakening of the nation had begun and that the "north winds of awakening" would be released from Vermont, across the northeast and the nation. Later in the article, I'll share how these prophetic insights relate to America's covenantal heritage as a nation of awakening. But first, lets look at two significant events related to Kim's word that came to pass in Washington, D.C. on October 31.

More Confirmations on October 31
First, America truly mourned on October 31-- though not due to a terrorist attack or a hurricane. Instead, America mourned the loss of the great civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks. A devoted Christian, Parks' act of gentle defiance brought new meaning to our pledge of "liberty and justice for all." As one political leader noted, Rosa Parks wasn't just the mother of the civil rights movement, but she was "the mother of the America we grew to be."

Her passing was bittersweet. From October 30 through October 31, Parks became the first woman and the second African American to lie in honor in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. Also on October 31, President Bush nominated Samuel Alito to serve as the next justice on the Supreme Court. Many speculate that Judge Alito, who currently presides over the Third US Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia, could be key in overthrowing legalized abortion in our land.

Is it possible that, on October 31, Bush nominated a man called by God to shift America from a legacy of death to the empowerment of life? His very name caught our attention, as we had been praying for a nominee with the qualities of the biblical Samuel, who served in Israel as both prophet and judge. Down in Texas, Cindy Jacobs ended 40 days of prayer and fasting for the release of a new season of miracles in our land. Coincidentally, the last night of Cindy's fast was October 31 -- the day Rosa Parks was honored, Judge Alito was nominated, and a meteor blazed across the D.C. skies.

New Season of Awakening and Justice
Clearly, we have entered into a season where a "Third Great Awakening," promised by the Lord, is now being released. Jolene woke up from a dream this morning repeating the words "Bigger than Finney, bigger than Finney." Charles Finney was the primary catalyst of America's Second Great Awakening. Perhaps the Lord is saying that what's now at hand is even bigger than the Second Great Awakening, which Finney himself described as the greatest outpouring since the Book of Acts.

Charles Finney
Interestingly, Charles Finney was a passionate abolitionist. The Republican Party was birthed in the embers of the awakening as an anti-slavery party, with Abraham Lincoln as its presidential candidate. But in truth, he could have been a Democrat. I believe that the Democratic Party was originally offered a mantle from the Lord to abolish slavery. When the mantle was refused, a new party was raised up out of the Democratic Party to shift America into this facet of God's justice.
Today, you won't find a Democrat with a pro-slavery platform. Instead, the Democratic Party has been a champion of civil rights for all. And fifty years from now, as the blemish of abortion is cleansed from America's soul, I prophesy that neither Democrat nor Republican will want to reinstate this practice because eradicating abortion is not a party issue -- it's a justice issue. At the outset of this Third Great Awakening, the Lord wants the governmental leaders of America to fully understand. He wants justice at our gates. We do not understand the consequences of ignoring this trumpet call. When the awakeners of Finney's era called for repentance, leading to a peaceful end to slavery, their plea was ignored. That's when the Civil War began.

Now, America is again divided over the issue of civil rights. This time it's the civil rights of the unborn. Will we pick up the mantle of justice, or will we retreat into division and see the reaping of the death we have been sowing as a nation? Truly, it is time for us to come out of our chambers and weep between the porch and the altar.

The Pilgrims Covenanted with God
When our forefathers stood against injustice, a nation of awakening was birthed. The Pilgrims set out for the new world to establish a land of religious freedom. On November 11, 1620, they signed the Mayflower Compact, entering into covenant with Jesus Christ by dedicating our land and government to "the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian Faith."

During both the first and second Great Awakenings, we saw two dimensions of this covenant with the Lord in manifestation. We saw God's glory -- the tangible manifestation of His presence and power -- across the land, resulting in societal transformation. And we saw evangelism -- the advancement of the Christian faith -- as unprecedented numbers of people turned to Jesus Christ.

The Huguenots Covenanted with God
Before the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts, another weary group came to America seeking religious freedom. Led by Jean Ribault, the Huguenots established a settlement in Ft. Caroline, Florida, again with the hope of reaching nations with the gospel. The Huguenots at Ft. Caroline were martyred at the hands of Spanish conquistadors. Jean Ribault died chanting Psalm 132, literally begging God to make this nation a dwelling place for His presence. But instead of praying, "Lord remember the afflictions of your servant David," he prayed, "Lord remember the afflictions of your servant Jean. How he swore. . . not to give rest to his eyes, nor slumber to his eyelids, until he found a dwelling place for the mighty God of Jacob."

God remembers the cry of His friends. Part of this Third Great Awakening is that covenantal blessings aborted in previous seasons will find life and expression at this time. it is interesting to note that, centuries later, another forerunner was gripped by Psalm 132 and the dream in God's heart for our land to be a dwelling place for His presence. At the outset of his ministry, Mike Bickle came into covenant with the Lord, according to Psalm 132 -- a covenant that eventually brought forth the 24/7 International House of Prayer.

Prophecy Fulfilled: A Comet Across the Sky
This is where we come full circle. The IHOP movement began in 1983, when Bickle called a 21-day solemn assembly after receiving supernatural confirmation from prophet Bob Jones. Bob shared with Mike that the Lord was releasing a great move of the Spirit across North America and that a comet would flash across the sky on the day he started his fast. This comet, undetected by scientists, would be a sign from the Lord that revival was coming. Mike arbitrarily picked May 7 to start the citywide solemn assembly, and on that night, a comet previously undetected by scientists flashed across the sky!

The saga has not ended. It is like a cycle. What goes around- comes around. It is time NOW! There are signs that the Third Great Awakening is breaking on the horizon.

Flood from Canada

Prophetic Experience from June 14, 2002

On Friday, June 14, 2002 I was attending a conference on legal issues between the Tribal Courts and Washington State Courts.  I was representing a Washington county at the conference.  During one of the breaks I took a walk to talk to the Holy Ghost.  I had a distinct and overwhelming experience with Him.  He showed me a map of the State of Washington with a flood of something like water flowing out of B.C. Canada through central Washington and on into Oregon.  I could not tell exactly where in British Columbia it originated, and I could not tell where it flowed into Oregon.  Although it was flowing through the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Pasco, Richland) area of Washington on its way to Oregon .  He made me to know the reason the flood was flowing through central Washington, and not the west side of the Cascade Range (where most of Washington's population lives).  The reason was two fold.  1) The churches (not the believers [Christians]) rejected His moving and were not willing to cooperate with what He has planned.  2) The believers [Christians] (not the churches) in central Washington were open, hungry and willing to follow HIS leading without question or counting the cost.  (note: I live on the west side of the Cascades).

The believers in Central Washington are open, hungry and willing to follow HIS leading.
He then made me to know that He had planned for this flood to flow through the west side, but because of stubbornness He could not move there if He wanted.  He then showed me that the central region of Washington is a natural terrain for water flow from Canada south.  That it is also an ancient pathway of peoples throughout history.  I felt very impressed that He plans to use the Native American Indians in the flood somehow.

Later I looked at a map of the Pacific Northwest.  I was drawn to the highway number 97 as the modern highway that follows the path of this flood I was shown.  I felt that this general route and the communities near it would be used to carry this "flood" that the Holy Ghost showed me.  I looked in my book "Interpreting the Symbols and Types" written by Kevin J. Conner and found the numbers 9 and 7.  nine = Number of finality, fullness, fruitfulness.  Number of the Holy Spirit.  Number of fruit of the womb.  seven = Number of perfection, and completeness.  Number of Book of Revelation.

Kelowna B.C. will  somehow be significant in this flood
I looked into British Columbia, Canada and was impressed that many other communities to the north of the end of Highway 97 would be in this flood.  One city in particular was Kelowna, B.C.  I felt impressed that Kelowna would  somehow be significant in this flood but, it would not be instrumental in this flood in ways that most believers would think.  It is like the Holy Ghost has a plan and a people in Kelowna that will be unexpected and in the past have been rejected by the church.
===============
I felt that this flood was an empowering force of the Lord. What I saw were various ministries that God has developed in the last 10 years or so and set into place. These ministries have seen some success, but mostly the people are laboring for the Lord in faith, believing they were sent by God to do a specific work. Often these folks are misunderstood by traditional Christianity while others were out and out rejected by them.

This empowerment was intentionally withheld by God for some specific reasons The workers were still learning the basics of what God has called them to do. They were still learning humility. They were still learning brokenness. They were still learning total reliance and dependence on HIM.

I felt that these diverse ministries (such as healing, miracles, prophetic, apostolic, etc.) are now in a season of maturity and God is ready to release the POWER that accompanies the gifting.

I feel that the results of these empowered ministries will somehow remain mostly "hidden". I don't think they will end up on the popular Christian TV talk shows. (Because this goes against what they just learned in the previous season - humility).

I see these ministries walking in a love for the lost and hurting like we have seldom seen.
If you have any revelation on this prophetic experience, please write to me.

Blessings,
David Bodine

Coming to the Rescue

By David Peterson

For even now I am coming forth in judgment, judgment against the enemy of your soul. Many think I’m coming to get them (the person) and beat them. I am not. My body not understand judgment. I’m going forth in judgment against the enemy that is living and active in My Body. My servants have flirted with sin thinking they could handle the situations they were in. They were snared. They’re hung upside down with their hands and feet tied up in knots. They’re scared because they know they are guilty. The enemy is ready for the slaughter of some of My servants. He’s even sharpened his knives right before their eyes as they hopelessly hang from the trees.

But now, even now I am aroused in My anger to go forth and judge My servant’s enemies. I’m roaring from the heavenlies to let My people go. My judgment is stirred up to strike My enemy, not My servants. But My servants that are bound are too blinded by guilt to realize it is I that is coming by to show forth My mercy in the midst of My judgment. In mercy I am cutting the ropes to the ankles and wrists of My servants. I will have My possessions.

The cry for help in My servants has roused Me from My resting place. I am coming as a warrior to seek and to save. I’m coming to rescue those that are shot down behind enemy lines. I am coming! I am coming! Hold on, I am coming to your rescue. (The heart and passion of the whole word)

My sword is lifted. I am coming to rescue My servants. Their eyes see the deserving sword of judgment coming upon them, but they don’t realize the sword is meant for the enemy which holds them captive. I’m going forth with Mercy and judgment at this time. Judgment on the neck of the enemies of My servants and Mercy of cleansing extended to My servants. My servants think all is lost, but My sword of mercy will cut thru the cords which bind their hands and feet as they drop to the ground in repentance. I will gather them up and fly them off upon My wings out of the enemies camp.

I’m sending out “lightning strike forces” throughout this season to gather up My army for the next generation. I am God and I am faithful to all generations.

Another judgment of Mine is coming after I cleanse and heal those that I rescued at this time. The judgment will come upon those who say, “God can’t use those people. Look what they’ve done!” They are blinded by their own hypocrisy. I am God and I am well able to perform My own Word. This is My work by My Spirit in this time. To show forth My purposes by the Right Arm of My Ability. Who will dare say to Me, “You can’t do that!” I will even do that which man thinks I can not do.

I will be glorified as My judgment goes forth. The land will rejoice, for great is the Lord and greatly to be praised. He is God and God alone.

Lessons on Effective Spiritual Warfare

One of the tasks that prophetic people are often given is spiritual warfare.  James Goll has written this excellent outline on waging warfare wisely. We don't usually publish outlines like this, but we're making this exception because this is a working outline rather than a teaching outline, and because the topic is so timely for the Pacific Northwest.

Your Most Effective Weapons
A. You Must Know and Speak the Word
Revelation 12:11 They overcame him by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. (See also Hebrews 4:12 and 1 John 5:4-5.)
2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
B. Your Conversations Should Reflect the Mentality of a Conqueror
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
C. You Must Take Authority Over satan in the Name of Jesus
Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runs into it and is safe.
Philippians 2:9,10 Therefore God has highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth.
D. You Must by Faith Clothe Yourself with God's Spiritual Armor
Ephesians 6:13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
E. You Must Tap into the Power of Prayer and Fasting
James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
Isaiah 58:6 Is this not the fast which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free and break every yoke?
F. You Must Draw Forth the Wisdom of God From Spiritual Veterans
Honor the vets of spiritual battle and learn from their successes and failures.
Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel.
G. You Must Learn When to Rest and Not Directly Engage the Enemy
The devil's job is to wear down the saints (Daniel 7:25); the spirit of the antichrist comes to do the same (1 John 4:3). Therefore, we must learn wisdom with our warring and learn to rest in the Lord, physically as well.

Forces That Shorten Your Seasons of Struggle
A. Your Testimony
Agreeing with the Word of God that Jesus has already won the battle is a power tool the devil hates.
Romans 10:8 But what does it say? "The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" – that is, the word of faith which we are preaching. (See also Proverbs 18:21; Revelation 12:11.)
B. Your Praise
This creates a climate satan cannot tolerate.
1 Samuel 16:23 So it came about whenever the evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him.
C. Your Agreeing
Get others involved! Call forth the power of agreeing prayer.
Matthew 18:18-19 Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven. Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in Heaven.
D. Your Seed-Sowing
This creates a partnership with God that involved Him to battle your adversary. Have a need? Sow a Seed!
Malachi 3:10-11 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this," says the Lord of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of Heaven, and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it may not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes," says the Lord of hosts. (See also 2 Corinthians 9:6-12.)

Why Does satan Attempt to Oppose You?

A. You are the Potential Source of Pleasure to God
Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being."
B. The devil Attempts to Attack Those Closest to the Heart of God
That means – you and me! He does this because he is powerless directly against God – who is his real enemy. Therefore, he attacks God's friends.
C. To Prevent the Arrival of Supernatural Assistance
The devil wants to paralyze your planning, abort your dreams, and dilute your hope. He opposes anything that will give God glory.

What are satan's Favorite Weapons?
A. Delay
He wants to weaken your desire to keep you from reaching to God. It's like coming under the fog of fatigue and losing your way (Daniel 10:2-14).
B. Deceit
Satan is the master of deception, error and seduction. He attempts to derail God's purposes by making principles of the spirit into laws of legalism.
C. Distraction
Broken focus is the goal of all satanic attack. Our times of greatest intimacy can be our times of greatest battle.
Proverbs 4:27 Do not turn to the right nor to the left; turn your foot from evil.
D. Disappointment
This can occur toward others, self, church and God, etc. The enemy attempts to magnify the weakness of others to offend and embitter. Those closest to you have the potential to wound you the most – therefore we must be people who release mercy and forgiveness.

When Does the enemy Hit the Hardest?
We can learn to predict the seasons of your attack.
Matthew 4:11 Then the devil left Him (for a season), and angels came and attended Him.
A. Physical Exhaustion
Some of satan's greatest attacks on your life will probably happen when you get too little sleep.
B. Major Changes
This is especially true when there are geographical changes, when one is moving into a new region. Crisis occurs on the eve of change.
C. The Birth of a Child Destined for Prophetic Greatness
Matthew 2:13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, take the Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him."
Satan's murderous scheme to attack a prophetic generation:
1. Moses with Pharaoh.
2. Jesus with Herod.
3. This generation with abortion.
D. A Specific Miracle Leaving the Hand of God
An enemy attack can happen when a specific miracle has just left the hand of God toward you. Daniel's 21-day prayer retreat is such an example and the resulting conflict that occurred.
Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.
An attack can occur when you make an effort to take a stand. The degree of intensity in spiritual warfare is proportional to the plan that you are to possess.
E. When You are Next in Line for Promotion
Remember, there are cyclic seasons. Satan came to Jesus seeking to entice and enslave Him, but left for a more opportune time.
Matthew 4:11 Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.

This is one of the better outlines I've seen on the topic.

The War Mode

I was seventeen years old, a senior in high school, and was slouching into my desk when an angry student almost twice my size entered the room. In a storm of spit and fire, he burst toward where I was sitting, grabbed me by my neck and began rearranging my facial features with his fist.
Someone had written a derogatory remark about him on the inside of his notebook and signed my name to it. Obviously, there was more going on in the Big Guy's life than anyone realized. Whatever other frustrations had been accumulating in his heart, his immediate goal was to release his fury on the latest offender, whom he considered to be me.
I should also mention that at the time I was five foot nine and weighed about 135 pounds. I was not a confrontational guy and had, in fact, developed several clever ways of avoiding conflict while still appearing relatively cool among my friends. However, it does not matter what one's philosophy is concerning physical violence when one is actually in a fight, especially with an angry giant. Big Guy was looking for blood. I quickly realized that if this attack was going to end, it would be because I put my whole heart into fighting back.
Once I accepted that I had no choice but to fight, something amazing happened inside me. Instead of my fear getting worse, it actually left. The energy that had been expended through fear was suddenly mobilized for my defense. At that moment, unexpectedly, I discovered another dimension of my soul: the war mode.
Frankly, I did not even know I had a war mode, but when Big Guy reached down to pick me up for "round two," my fight instincts clicked into action. It had been easy for him to throw me around when I was not resisting, but now I sprang upward with a punch that landed squarely on his nose. He fell back a step. I hit him again two or three times and then jumped on him while he was off balance, knocking him to the floor. I admit it is possible, on reflection, that he stumbled over a chair and my punch had nothing to do with his fall, but it did not matter. When his back hit the floor, there was a 135-pound Sicilian on top of him.
By now, students were pulling me off of him. Blood was pouring from his nose, and his friends were calling me a bully. When the teacher entered the room, it plainly looked as though I was the aggressor and Big Guy the victim, cowering beneath my relentless assault.
I nearly failed to graduate because of the incident, but I did not care. Something inside me had changed. I had found the war mode. I still did not look for a fight, but I was not afraid of one either.
Passivity is Not Peace
Why am I telling you this story? First of all, it is not because I think physical violence is the answer to our problems. Unless we are in the military or law enforcement, physical violence is not God's answer to what troubles us. I related this incident to emphasize that there is a "war mode" that exists in each one of us. You may be facing a foe bigger than you – maybe it's sin or demonic attacks, or perhaps your kids are drifting away from God, or your community or church is declining spiritually – but a point comes when living under oppression is no longer acceptable to you! It is at the moment that you say "enough!" that God begins to activate the war mode inside of you.
This mode of thinking is not a virtue in itself. Yet, just as we surrender our hearts, minds and bodies to God, so we can surrender this aspect of the soul, and find God's grace anointing us to fight the fight of faith.
The fact is, we are at war on a global scale. We are fighting the influence of immoral and perverse leaders in our culture; and on an international level, facing Islamic terrorism and manipulation. Who will protect the future for our children? You see, it is up to us to defend our communities, to reinforce moral values and bring redemptive change to our world.
Again, we are not talking about physical or carnal warfare – Paul said the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they are mighty! (See 2 Corinthians 10:4.) We need to take up the "sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Ephesians 6:17). Fighting for righteousness is not an advanced stage of spiritual development; it actually is basic. Everyone needs to learn how to pray, to take spiritual authority, and to speak the Word of God with faith. We cannot be intimidated by our enemies' threats as we stand against the advances of darkness.
You see, too many have settled for a false peace, which is the result of compromise and fear. God wants us to have true peace, which comes from faith in Christ and victory over evil.
Today many are weary with world events. Part of this weariness is because our hearts are divided. We need to get over our reluctance in facing our enemies. Stop worrying about making the devil mad and get mad yourself – be angry, but do not sin! There is a legitimate "time for war" (Ecclesiastes 3:8) and we are in it.
The sooner we switch into war mode, the faster we will tap into the moral resolve needed to defeat personal oppression and secure victory. As we are changed, so we can begin to influence the world around us. So rebuke passivity and take authority over self-pity. God will give grace to prevail.
Consider also Isaiah's revelation about the Lord. The prophet wrote:
"The Lord will go forth like a warrior, He will arouse His zeal like a man of war. He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against His enemies" (Isaiah 42:13).
The Lord is a warrior and He desires you to become a warrior as well. Shake off the weariness and get back into the Word of God. If you were knocked down, get up. It's time to reactivate your war mode.
Master, I submit to Your anointing for warfare. I renounce being a coward or embracing a false peace based on compromise. I submit to the fighter in You, who can sanctify the fighter in me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Beware Gypsy Presbyteries

“Beware gypsy presbyteries!”

It has been fifty years since the warning was prophesied to the church in that city. It was one of the larger cities of the greater Pacific Northwest region, and the prophet declaring the word was known by the church of that city, and was respected. “Beware gypsy presbyteries!” he declared.

I’ve been thinking about that word, and I’m hearing God breathing on it for my region. In fact, I believe God is re-breathing that word to the entire Pacific Northwest. He’s probably saying it to more than just our region, but I have confidence that this is the season for the Northwest to hear it. Fifty years ago, the church didn’t hear, or they didn’t understand, and there was a price that was paid for their failure, but that’s not the story I’m telling here.

But before I tell the story, I need to be clear about the position that I tell it from. I am not opposed to travelling ministries; I am not opposed to prophetic ministries. In fact, I have good friends in both camps, and I serve ministries that are in both camps. What I am about to say is not a declaration that such ministries are in error. That would be an untrue accusation. In fact, the very prophecy we’re discussing here was delivered by a travelling prophetic minister.

Think with me about that simple sentence: Beware gypsy presbyteries:

·         Beware: watch out. There’s danger here. Be careful here; don’t get caught in it.
·         Gypsy: in the less-politically-correct times of a half century ago, a gypsy was “a member of a people with dark skin and hair who speak Romany and who traditionally live by seasonal work and fortunetelling.” They traveled from place to place, with no roots in the places they visited, and no accountability in those places.
·         Presbyteries: Bill Hamon defines a prophetic presbytery: when two or more prophets and/or prophetic ministers lay hands on and prophesy over an individual, a body, or a region, to minister a prophetic word, to identify gifts and placement in the Body or in leadership, to impart gifts and callings, or for ordaining to an office of ministry.

It’s probably worth mentioning that this a metaphor: I am not suggesting that there are either individual prophets or groups of prophets wandering from town to town performing fortune telling under the guise of prophetic ministry just to make a living. I’m sure that does occasionally happen, but again: that’s not the primary warning here.

These days, we have a large number of traveling prophets, visiting town after town, prophesying. I would expect that, like the gypsies of old, they were tempted to declare what people wanted to hear in order to generate better offerings, but again, that’s not the primary warning here.

The warning is to guard against depending on prophetic words from travelling prophetic ministries who have no root, no stake in this region. There is good that can come from visiting prophetic ministries, even from ministries that we don’t well know; the warning is against depending on those.

And this is a warning to the church; I am confident that this is a warning to the church in my region; I suggest you ask the Holy Spirit if it’s a warning to the church in your region as well. Fundamentally, this is a warning that the primary prophetic voice in our region must not be from travelling ministries. Our primary prophetic voice needs to come from the prophetic people of our own region.

Thirty years ago, there were a relatively large number of travelling evangelists. They’d come into town, hold a week or two worth of meetings, collect that many offerings, and move on to the next town. A few people came to Christ, more folks renewed forgotten vows, and some of the saints were encouraged. Sometimes.
But it was not an uncommon occurrence that the evangelist would say some things that confused some of the sheep. In my community, the departure of an evangelist would leave uncertain saints worrying about “Can a Christian really have a demon?” or “Can I really lose my salvation?” “Am I really in danger of hell after all these years?”

Pastors would talk with respect about some of the evangelists; others, they said, would “Blow in, blow up, and blow out!” and the pastors would be left to clean up the messes, soothe their worried sheep and answer their difficult and sometimes unnecessary questions.

In our generation, we have more prophets than evangelists blowing into town, declaring a prophetic sermon, prophesying with varying degrees of accuracy over several people in the audience, collecting the requisite number of offerings, and blowing on to the next town. Again, the pastors are left to clean up the messes, soothe their worried sheep and answer their difficult and sometimes unnecessary questions. These days, the questions include, “The prophet said this would happen; why isn’t it happening?” and “Why won’t the pastor recognize me in the role the prophet said I am called to?”

In other words, there are a number of pastoral problems with the church depending on travelling prophetic ministers. In order to deal with the pastoral questions, there is a temptation to reject the travelling prophetic ministry; I’m not sure that’s the right solution.

But there are also significant apostolic problems when the church depends heavily on travelling prophetic ministers, particularly when she depends on un-connected gypsy presbyteries. Some examples:

·         If we don’t stand up and take responsibility for hearing what God has to say for our region, then why should we expect people who have no investment in the region to labor to hear God’s heart for our region?
·         Prophetic words often don’t come to pass by themselves; we need to labor with them: fighting for the promises, fighting with the promises. Prophets who blow into town, declare a word (even a good word) and then are gone to the next town cannot labor to birth the word that’s been declared.
·         If we depend on guest speakers for our prophetic declarations, then what happens when we need to hear from God and there is no guest speaker in town this weekend?
·         When a church, a region, depends on others to bring the word of the Lord for them, then they have no motivation, no reason to raise up their own prophetic community. The church is justly famous for teaching on the gift of encouragement, the gift of giving and others; recently, the church has begun teaching on the gift of prophecy and how to hear God’s voice, but how often has either a congregation or the church of a region taught the people of their own region about how to walk in the difficult office of a prophet?
·         If there are no prophets raised up and recognized in the region, then how will the church of the region recognize and stand up to the agenda of darkness and declare, “You shall not pass!” As a result, the region stands with weakened defenses.

If we are to be a healthy people, we need to develop a measure of strength in all of the gifts in our region. We will do well to welcome travelling prophetic ministries, but we need to develop lasting relationships with them; fortunately, in this generation, it’s very possible to build lasting, distant relationships.

I believe the Spirit of God is calling for maturity in the prophetic (in all of the gifts, really). It’s time to raise up mature prophetic communities in our region, communities that have the maturity to declare the word of God to our region, both to the church and to the “secular” community, communities that are self-replicating, raising up their replacements, communities that can discern and judge the declarations of the gypsy presbyteries.
